King not always the best authority on what is and isn't a good movie, but holy hell I want to see this thing.

When Evil Lurks was almost something really special, but it really loses steam in a rather clunky second half, and I’m not sure how I felt about certain elements. Still, like others have said, the practical effects are great and some of the imagery and sequences were fantastic and just oozed dread, and it’s definitely well worth watching; thankfully, I did not find it as malicious as Speak No Evil.

I've seen a bunch of people mention them together; what relation does Speak No Evil have to When Evil Lurks?

    Gore-Us:

    1. @xkaylinh a movie starring an actress born in 1993: Sound of Violence. Lili Simmons being the actress born in 93.

    2. @333 GANG a movie that takes place on Halloween: May. Also watched a bunch of others that took place on Halloween.

    3. @OhTheWater a movie featured in the book “Bleeding Skull! A 1990s Trash-Horror Odyssey”: Death Metal Zombies

    4. @ghostedaway a body horror movie from the 80s: The Stuff

    5. @The Emologist a horror movie featuring an inanimate object as the antagonist: Christine

    6. @Aaron Mook a Romero horror film you've never seen: Monkey Shines

    7. @Contender a movie that features someone from Hip-Hop: Slice

    8. @Shakriel a horror film featured in MST3k: The Incredible Melting Man

    9. @estebanwaseaten an HP Lovecraft adaptation not featuring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton: The Unnamable

    10. @digitalsea a movie written by Kevin Williamson that’s not from the Scream franchise: Cursed

    11. @riotspray an animated horror film: Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack

    12. @imthegrimace a horror remake: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

    13. @Daniel a made for TV movie or miniseries pre-2001: Ghostwatch

    14. @chris a cryptid movie: Exists

    15. @incognitojones a movie that came out the year you turned 13: The Convent

    Extra Credit:

    Stevil 1 and 2

Had a ton of fun doing this. These were all first time watches aside from May and Cursed. Didn't love a lot of my picks, unfortunately. Invasion of the Body Snatchers was easily my favorite of the bunch. Didn't get to the rest of the extra credit categories since I was going through my personal watchlist for October. I'd 100% do this again next year. Can't think of anything I'd change about it.

The original miniseries is legit one of the worst things I have ever seen, and I only made it about an hour in.

Watched beetlejuice last night which is sort of becoming a Halloween night tradition

I’m playing Spider-Man a lot at the moment but want to continue with the Halloween series or go back to the first Hell House again

is the directors cut of hell House a good choice for a rewatch or do the extra scenes bog the movie down?

Lol I actually watched the mini-series first and then started The Stand like a weirdo. I'm in the middle of it now, it's taking me forever.

I love Salem’s Lot and can't wait for this movie.

If anyone knows where to find the 1995 version let me know.

I think they have been mentioned in the same breath due to them both being ultra bleak and twisted. Christian Tafdrup directed SNE and Damian Rugna directed WEL

    oh welp I'm dumb nevermind

anyway I felt like some Derrickson tonight and Netflix obliged with two of his I hadn't seen before. Deliver Us From Evil (not bad, a little shaky but some good parts too) and Black Phone (this was fucking incredible. instantly my favourite of his, and I love Sinister)

Yeah that's why I asked bc I was thinking it was the same director but then realized it wasn't. Gonna do Terrified this weekend since I loved WEL so much. Then maybe SNE.
