My kids and I just watched the first episode, it was good! Definitely more built for teens than kids

I was thinking during last VHS that they should do one of these set in the future...

Just finished the haunted mask. I miss the camp and color of the OG series, but am enjoying this so far. It feels like what they did with the recent Are You Afraid of the Dark reboot.

I wasn’t prepared to hear Travis Scott haha

  10. Prepping my best of 2023 lists (obviously subject to change over the next couple of months), so reminder I'd you haven't seen Brooklyn 45 (Shudder) or Horror in the High Desert 2: Minerva (Tubi, presumably after watching the first), you should do that! Currently #1 and #3 on my list of favorite horror films from this year.

Finished Society tonight (great rec) after showing my kids gremlins for the first time.

It’s the first movie real horror movie they’ve seen so far and I know my almost 8 year old wants to go even scarier. She’s really interested in Chucky and I know she’s gonna want to see Five Nights at Freddy’s.

  13. Our six-year-old niece keeps asking to watch Scream lol. Definitely too soon, but she also loves Gremlins.

I must’ve been 6 or 7 myself when I saw it since I remember my parents renting it from blockbuster when it was a new release

my parents were always weirder about me seeing nudity and sensuality over violence and horror, so they would just tell me to close my eyes until I was told I could open them again

they just didn’t know how good I was at pretending I couldn’t see

I finally watched talk to me but it didn't have subtitles and I felt like I missed half the dialogue. Subtitles 4 life

I need a V/H/S where every segment takes place on Halloween.

Checked out Dark Harvest last night. Definitely a good watch, imo. It's pretty fucked up when you really think about it. Some nice gore in it too. Better than the novella I thought

Meant to jump back in after but The Blob was so awesome. Highly effective practical effects that reminded me a lot of The Thing.

I watched The Incredible Melting Man this morning for the horror movie featured on MST3K category since Soultaker is nowhere to be found on streaming. Dragged a lot for me and there is a gross SA scene. Dug the makeup and practical effects at least. 2/5

Only have the animated movie category and 3 extra credit ones left for Gore-Us

it was a movie that got completely fucked up by the studio sadly. clearly was meant to be a comedy to some degree and they butchered it

  24. Two episodes left, House of Usher is really fun. What I usually love about Flanagan projects, his shows especially, is that he writes these lovable characters you can easily sympathize with, so it's as heart wrenching as it is horrifying to watch what they go through. This... isn't that haha. It still very much feels like Flanagan, his directing style is still there, and he's reusing a dozen actors. But most of those actors were previously playing those aforementioned likable characters, and now they're playing these terrible rich assholes, and you get to enjoy watching them die in increasingly creative ways. I love the performances, the flashback structure of the narrative, the lighting and camerawork, the look of the ghosts. And idk, maybe the two remaining episodes will make the few remaining surviving characters likable... probably not. But I'm still enjoying it every step of the way.
