  1. Totally agree, was honestly really impressed with this one. Great casting (Robert Joy is awesome), great social commentary, and solid kills. Leaves me cautiously optimistic for Diary of the Dead.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Diary rules, genuinely scary at points

Watched as above so below last night having never seen it before, thought it was pretty good overall but definitely kind of stumbles towards the end.

Most of the time I feel like a found footage style horror movie could work equally well or better if they just incorporated traditional shots as well. The whole found footage thing can feel gimmicky after a while with the 100% through a camcorder veiwpoint imo

Loved that rock wall demon getting trucked with an absolute heisman trophy level stiff arm tho, lol

found footage is one of my favorie sub-genres, but most of them can be improved by cutting the duration of the movie as well

Revisited Evil Dead (2013) because I saw some people posting about how it was released 8 years ago yesterday. It really does goes all in from 0-100 once Eric reads from the book. Really love the little flourishes added in that call back to the originals too. All in all, a very solid remake that still holds up imho.

Definitely, very effective for me more times than not. I just feel if a movie is going to do a multi camera found footage story and it's unexplainedly edited and switching perspectives between characters throughout - a few 3rd person shots would still work imo

I've always been put off by found footage, so I left a lot of them until now to watch. I feel like I missed out on a lot of good stuff.

    V/H/S 1& 2 were great.
    Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum was fantastic.
The Taking of Deborah Logan ruled.
As Above so Below was decent.
    Creep was Creep.
    Hell House LLC was fine.
The House October Built worked well.

Probably missing a bunch, but that was the batch I watched recently. Currently watching Willow Creek.

oh yeah, and V/H/S Viral was pretty shitty outside of the Spanish speaking story. I didn't have subtitles, so it was a little awkward but fuck, it was cool as hell.

I found Hell House LLC to be pretty effective. It's a shame that the sequels are a bunch of stinkers. The actual hotel turns into a pretty cool haunted attraction during the fall months. I'm like 30 minutes from there.

I wish I had been older in 1999 to witness the roll out of that film...especially from a marketing perspective.

I feel like having seen the reveal, the thousands of rip-offs, and even more parodies, its hard for me to try and watch it and be surprised or scared at all.

Yea...I get it. The environment needs to be right for that one. I saw Blair Witch (16) in a theater by myself and thought it was going to be a great experience until a concrete saw started buzzing away at the sidewalk right outside my theater's emergency exit door. The manager couldn't understand why I wanted a refund..

  15. I felt this way about Scream once upon a time, but Scream rules. Would definitely recommend Blair Witch Project. It's found footage/horror history!

Willow Creek wasn't that effective for me. I liked the idea, but it was mostly boring.

The most convincing found footage stuff I’ve seen is the August Underground stuff, like raw as fuck and very disturbing to sit through.

I remember appreciating the unique vibe to it overall granted I was 11, but still living in basically a northeastern forest my whole life I was terrified to take the trash out at night for a while lol

And yea unfortunately it came out at the beginning height of "spoof" movies, a dark time indeed

My older cousin showed me the Blair witch project when it came out on video and it freaked me out for months

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (a recent watch), Trollhunter, The Bay, Afflicted, Poughkeepsie Tapes are some solid found footage movies.

Last year I discovered the Den after listening to a podcast. It's an early web cam style movie and it's great.

Love the Bay. The Poughkeepsie Tapes is unsettling as hell, but it's hard not to get distracted by how poor they made the tape quality. I mean, I know it's part of the shtick, but I found it to be too much.

The [REC] movies jump to mind as well as The Sacrament. I love The Den.

  25. Ooooh, yeah, The Sacrament is underrated. So is The Last Exorcism. The Poughkeepsie Tapes has been on my list for a minute, maybe I'll give it a go tonight.
