My first memory of watching a horror movie is the exorcist and I was sneaking peaks from behind my parents’ recliner while studying spelling words in 2nd or 3rd grade

probably why demonic possession tropes are still among the scariest for me

First horror movie for me was Scream when I was 6. It was in 1998 at my cousin’s house. He didn’t have Scream 2 for some reason so I don’t think I saw that until a few years later. But Scream is still my favorite movie to this day and probably always will be.

The first horror movie I remember seeing in a theater was when my parents took me to see Leprechaun at a drive-in because I saw the poster in our local paper (anyone else remember getting movie times from the newspaper??) and I was obsessed with it. It ended up being THE movie that scared me as a kid and I was 7 when it came out lol.

I know I liked horror movies before that and likely saw a lot of the Halloween and Nightmare franchises because my parents let me rent pretty much whatever I wanted from a very young age. I am forever fortunate that they allowed that and I turned out alright, if not thriving because I was exposed to adult themes and mortality at a young age.

I don't know if it's horror but the first movie I remember seeing that scared the shit out of me was the sixth sense, I saw it at the drive in and it fucked me up

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Scream is a great first horror. I saw that before most of the stuff it was parodying and it still ripped

  9. Definitely horror, I had a VHS copy taped from TV and even edited, the tent and cupboard scenes scared the shit out of me

That’s too bad. Would like for a studio like A24 or one of the other contemporary weirdo indie studios to get a hold of the franchise.

I remember scaring myself with Unsolved Mysteries as a kid, but can’t recall my first horror movie.

Loved seeing Cloverfield in theatres in high school lol

  16. My Bloody Valentine 3D was the first R-rated horror film I remember seeing in theaters. Still rips.

Forgot to mention I started Cursed last night for one of my Gore-us picks. Only halfway in, but pretty fun so far!

My Bloody Valentine 3D was partially filmed like 2 miles from my house growing up. The motel they used is right down the road from my parents, I drive by it all the time.

Earliest scary thing was probably the red pool monster in Are You Afraid of the Dark. I’ve always been scared swimming.

  22. I remember my neighbors (two years older than me) describing the Ring to me and not being able to fathom something that scary. Never felt that way again until someone first described The Human Centipede to me in high school lmao

My cousins used to terrify me with Chucky, but I think the first truly scary thing I saw was watching part of Friday the 13th Part II from the top of the stairs looking down into my grandmom's basement. Specifically the severed head altar. I had pretty bad nightmares that night.
