I recommend the director's cut if you can track it down but the theatrical still rips. DC requires some suspension of belief because they had to source the lost stuff from VHS tapes

Is Stir Of Echoes horror? I've never seen it, but was thinking about doing it for my movie that came out when I was 13.

if you watch this you should follow it up with Hollow Man lol

  13. I hate Hollow Man lol and I love Verhoeven and Bacon.

  14. Did VHS85 last night. Thought it was about as uneven as any of them (probably more so), but the two-part segment was super fun, Derrickson's segment actually tried something fresh, and the narrative structure ruled. Fun entry! Would give it a slight edge over 99.

Just finished Leprechaun in the Hood for my hip hop pick. It was somehow both exactly what I imagined and chock full of things I could've never expected. Didn't realize it also had Coolio in addition to Ice-T.

  19. It looks like my brother scheduled our vacay for this month, and while I'm lucky I even get to go at all, traveling to cool places and hanging out with the fam, that does mean I'll have less time to watch spooky stuff, so I probably won't reach 31 movies in October this year, although I will still do my best to get through Gore-Us as much as possible

Done rewatching Bly. The first time I watched this, episode 8 felt so jarring, an entire episode of flashback haphazardly placed in the middle of a cliffhanger and its resolution. The second time, I skipped that episode entirely, and as expected it flowed better, of course, but I felt like I was missing a crucial contextual part of the storyline, like some of the parallels between characters past and present. This time, I didn't skip it, and it didn't feel at all out of place. It works pretty nicely actually, but only if you know that it's coming, and know its function in the story. My favorites, though, are still episodes 5 and 9. But there aren't really any weak episodes, in this, or Hill House, or Midnight Mass.

We had like a week of warm weather out of nowhere but it's finally cool again. House of Usher soon. It's flannel Flanagan season, y'all.

  22. Was bummed to see Joe Bob hosting Halloween was edited to air on AMC, but goddamn if that isn't a perfect slasher. And that comes from someone who typically subscribes to "the trashier, the better."

I show Halloween in my horror film class. I wonder if I can get the rip/stream of the AMC version to show since I cut the nudity anyway*

*I got in trouble for showing TCM like 6 years ago so now I am overly cautious of what I show in class.
