Just finished The Dark Half for my Romero pick. Damn, I really liked that. Classic King, with some gnarly Romero visuals. Great fall vibes as well. That eye in the brain, and bird scene at the end were pretty dope.

Totally Killer isn’t my favorite horror movie of the year, but definitely the most fun.

Totally Killer has a great cast with fun moments and gore. Totally in the realm of Final Girls, Happy Death Day, and Detention, but has its own voice. One of my favorites I’ve watched this year.

Currently watching the new RL Stine film since its his birthday!

Gimme light, gimme love, gimme fire

Got a solid block of flicks watched this weekend.

Had the place to myself so I watched Men because after reading a lot about it I thought my wife would hate it. Jokes on me because I, myself, borderline hated it. It starts off so good with trauma (typical of A24) and that forest and tunnel scene is genuinely chilling. From there it fell apart for me and I can’t believe that last bit of movie was actually made. I could see it working in a horror novel but seeing it play out just didn’t work for me.

Today we wanted horror comedies and did a double feature of The Blackening and Totally Killer. We had an absolute ball with both. How characters reacted in The Blackening felt so lived in, even if it was heightened for comedic purposes. It had us in stitches multiple times and I’m glad it’s not a straight up spoof of horror tropes like the trailer would make you believe.

  13. I kinda get what you mean, Malignant and Barbarian were pretty bonkers. Pearl and Titane, too. Crazy that we got all those in the 2020s already. Talk to Me wasn't bonkers, but I do think it's just as good. The closest thing I can think of for this year is probably Beau is Afraid, but I didn't like that one.

  14. Finished Martin last night. A really great and unique Romero film. Very dark, funny, and personal - less social satire than usual.

It was just okay. I wouldn't recommend it necessarily, but it's not bad. Just not very scary and no real closure. Kinda plays more like a true crime thing than horror.

Did The Mummy (1959) and Anguish today. Both absolutely ruled for such different reasons haha

Saw the new Exorcist tonight. Should've just rewatched the original (or the 3rd one since I've never seen it).

Maybe it at least counts as a remake for Gore-Us.

  23. Yo what, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark is actually decent?? Why did I let the world trick me into thinking otherwise? That was a blast

Just seeing this comment as I never post in this thread (I’m not a huge horror fan and the types of horror movies I do like I’m pretty particular about because I just can’t handle much gore), but I had to respond because I saw this movie last October and I love it. I will say this, the tone of the trailer is all wrong for what the movie actually is. It’s an autumnal, heartbreaking coming of age story set at Halloween. Picture a film like Stand By Me on Halloween night with a little bit of spooky thrown into the mix.
