Yeah the trailer and director left me confident it wasn't going to be good.

 

Did anyone really think a horror film made by DGD was going to be good after Halloween Ends? Him and McBride did well on Halloween 2018, but after Ends I have no interest in seeing anything else they make.

 

I'm gonna be honest: The Exorcist is undeniably a good film, but it's not really my thing and demonic possession is maybe my least favorite kind of horror, so I didn't have high hopes for anothet sequel/reboot. I like Halloween 2018 and even Kills as a slasher fan, but the trailers have felt standard at best and goofy at worst to me.

 

Anyways, night one of the Fest. Seeing Night of the Living Dead on the big screen with a live score.

 

I haven't watched any Halloween let alone Halloween Ends but I very much disliked It Chapter Two so I know how it feels to absolutely lose faith in a director after a promising first film in a series is followed by an underwhelming sequel. (Aside from Sasha's scenes I didn't bother watching The Flash)

 

May kinda ruled. Had a Tim Burton quality that I found very charming but ended up being really fucked and dark. Much better than anything else I’ve seen by McKee.

 

Very excited for this!

 

Watching Poltergeist tonight, definitely think Spielberg directed this in secret

A fine choice

 

I always hate this theory because it takes away from the great effort by Tobe Hooper. If I directed a movie and it was really good and everyone thought there's no way I directed it I would be so pissed.

 

I feel that, I love Tobe. It’s just very noticeable watching it, so many of Spielberg’s motifs show up in this movie and it’s hard not to think that.

 

Strobes need to make a comeback in horror filmmaking

 

I go back and forth on this, but I absolutely hate denying Tobe the credit he deserves. It’s clear that Spieldberg was involved, but Tobe was at the helm. Who wouldn’t take notes from a guy like Spieldberg? It was a great collaboration and I’ll leave it at that. TCM continues to be criminally underrated and The Funhouse is fucking amazing… Tobe4life. .

Also… currently watching Halloween 18.. what an appropriate requel. How does DGD dive so hard after such a solid installment?

I’m still annoyed it took me like a month to get my copy of Cure during B&N’s 50% off sale, everyone wanted that damn thing

 

Spirit Halloween is very much in the Disney Channel Original Movie realm, but lacks the heart of them. Serviceable entry level horror, tho.

 

I mean, he did write it. And Hooper is a great director on his own, it’s not surprising that it feels like Spielberg and is also really well directed by another person.
