I actually agree with you, I just think that spending the majority of the film building tension is a failure of the horror format and that something should be happening by the halfway point

Like i don't hate the VVitch, but certainly felt bored for the majority of the movie haha. I went in blind because a friend wanted to see if and all I knew at the time was that it was horror.

I understand what he was doing with the witch but it just didn't work for me

  6. Did Saint Maude yesterday. Didn’t find it very thrilling or even particularly suspenseful, mostly just made me sad. A dreary drama with a surreal finale and one of the more “but do u get it” final shots I’ve seen in recent memory. Can’t say I thoroughly disliked it, but also wouldn’t revisit and couldn’t really recommend. At least not for horror

idk how anyone could be bored by VVitch lol that film is a masterclass in tension

my hot take of today is that Midnight Mass did the final shot of Saint Maud both better and earlier than Saint Maud

I’ve seen the Witch and it’s one of my favorite A24 horror films. Fear street 1666 was okay, don’t care to watch it again. I love researching stuff on the witch trials and America in those days, especially in October, so I didn’t know if there were any other big films that took place during that period I didn’t know of.

hate to hear that it didn’t work for you quite as much as it did for me but to be fair: that film is an acquired taste for sure

I felt no tension from the witch, just mostly boredom.

I liked the tone and wardrobes for the Witch. I’ve always been a fan of set pieces and such for period films. I did have to watch it with subtitles on though. I couldn’t follow what was being said without them, especially whenever the dad was talking.

I started one the other day called Eyes of Fire that I heard good things about, but decided I wasn't in the mood and put on something else.

  15. The Witch is so good. One of the most immersive experiences I've had as far as a period piece horror actually transporting you to its place and era. The entire movie is seeping with dread and anxiety. I love it.

  16. I feel like that's one of the period horror films that convinced me that movies like that were capable of NOT being boring lol

yes. I still want to see the movie in full but that really did irk me. I see the absurdity and comedy in that scene and yet it was still horrific haha
