The Horror Thread 2U • Page 423

  1. Yeah, Evil Dead Rise was very tight. Only minor complaint was the level of fan service. One or two references/staples of the franchise, sure, but there were like five different callbacks to the first two movies that felt tonally out of place to me.

Otherwise, super bloody and fun, though. Exactly what you want from an Evil Dead film. Still a notch below 2013 for me, though.

I'm curious to know which ones you are referring to here? I think I remember most of them, but not sure. Feel free to respond to this in the actual movie thread if that's easier.

not much of a fan of Army of Darkness at all, but really love just about everything else in the Evil Dead series and am very excited to see Rise (hopefully) soon!

I know Evil Dead 2013 is at the top and AoD is at the bottom for me. I feel like the rest can be swapped around depending on my mood

I think the cast and acting and dynamic alone puts EDR above 2013, but totally get why someone would lean towards the latter.

I think I do like the characters in EDR more, but the violence in 2013 takes it for me haha

Okay, finally watched Evil Dead 2013 and yup it rules. Super gnarly, the box cutter really got me good. Good nods to the original without really rehashing. The other Raimi references were fun and it's cool to see them in a movie that's pretty tonally different than his work, glad someone got their face thrown up on.

  17. Jane Levy killed it in that. I try not to remember any gory details

Am I glad I watched (insert horror movie title here)? Yes. Would I watch it again? No.

What are everyone's favorite horror movies from the '90s? What would you say is the categorical best? Which ones do you think have been slept on too much and more people need to watch?
