Is that the one he did? I can’t remember but I know he had a solid take on Paul Walker’s goodbye that was widely loved and praised by an audience that is very much not Wan’s typical viewer group. Those movies are not favorites but all that to say that I came out of it surprised it was done by a guy known for horror and think he’s adaptable. I just know for sure I want NOES back more than FT13. I’m a biased Craven fan and I’m proud.

  3. I'm at a body horror lecture(!) and I'm going to ask, but does anyone have any good examples of LGBTQ+ body horror? Titane comes to mind, but I'm sure I'm missing something. I feel like there's amazing potential for a horror film about the body dysmorphia that comes with being trans, but I'm afraid I'm not the person to explore that.

I adore It Follows. Didn’t really get captured by Silver Lake though. That guy needs to work more!

  6. I should rewatch Under the Silver Lake. Didn't love it, didn't hate it, but it sure was something. And I owe it to Mitchell after It Follows.

Felt the same way. It’s also hard to go into any type of artist’s follow up work when their debut is praised and sets a high bar. It Follows being his entirely (written and directed) and also his first horror film is beyond remarkable.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Under the Silver Lake absolutely rules

It’s crazy how A24 tried to bury UTSL, I wonder what happened behind the scenes

  14. The Outwaters was too abstract and nonsensical for me. Maybe others will find it more unsettling and effective, but it didn't work for me unfortunately.

  17. Hmmm...I remember it being more of a psychological slasher, but considering the level of violence, definitely in a similar realm!

  21. Maybe I'm wrong on this but I've always thought of body horror less as horrible things being done to the body (Saw, Raw) but rather the body doing horrible things (Malignant, Titane). but yeah Sissy is definitely super gory, and satisfyingly so

In response to your earlier post, I do think Raw and Titane both work as queer allegory. We're All Going to the World's Fair does as well, but there's no gore in that at all

  22. Yeah, We're All Going to the World's Fair came to mind too - specifically the Youtube video she watches with the tickets being pulled out of someone's arm

Knocked off one of my blind spots today with Rosemary’s Baby. I’ll preface this with FUCK POLANSKI, of course, and it’s absolutely insane that HE made it. Anyway, not saying anything new here obviously, but incredible performances, cinematography, score, and execution.

  24. Forgot to mention I won second place in romantic horror/body horror trivia after the lecture! Got a gift basket with a copy of V/H/S (which I gave to someone since I have a copy), The Lazarus Effect, a local documentary about one of our haunted bridges, a horror shirt and book, some tea, and some candy. The other basket had Audition, a bottle of mead, a whip and some locally-made leather handcuffs but the first place winner immediately snagged that one and said "I'm a bit of a freak" to me and the host lmao
