It’s the 572 days part that sticks out for me. Like the house in the void is where his mind was and him going upstairs and embracing the presence was him finally letting go and passing away after imo. It would explain the photos, his mom fading away, and how imperceptible the face in the darkness at the very end.

  2. It's definitely possible! I just think it's scarier if that moment is simply a marker of time.

  3. Yeah the whole coma thing was a pretty immediate theory for a lot of people I think, and is honestly probably the actual truth, even including the ending sequence. Especially considering the plot of Heck. But I do agree with Aaron that the idea of it simply being a demonic presence torturing the kids for 572 days is like 1000% scarier

I wish it would have delivered a little more on the Toons aspect, but was a wild 90's experience.

my brother's review of Skinamarink is that it was "art house bullshit" lol and that it should have been 40 minutes long. I plan on watching it eventually

I agree with all the negative Skinamarink takes, the vibes were awful but it would have been worth it with an actual scare at the end instead of more vague nothingness.

Still haven’t seen the movie yet, but Kyle is on this week’s episode of Scarred for Life

So does The Last of Us count as horror adjacent? Cause I felt like the premier was better than expected.

Hopefully he’ll give a couple clues to what it’s actually about. He was right though, that movie guaranteed made it hard for me to sleep last night.

100%. I'm sure there's a bit of recency bias at play, but TLOU premiere is the best of any show I've seen in an extremely long time.

As someone who hasn’t played the game, I thought the premiere was amazing. For being 90 minutes, it flew by and I had a blast. I usually don’t watch weekly shows as they come out, but I think I’m going to keep up with it to avoid spoilers.

I thought Sick was a lot of fun! I get why people who differing perspectives on Covid might not enjoy it as I rolled my eyes at some things but as far as a suspenseful slasher it was very well done.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

think I had a slightly different read on Skinamarink than the rest of the thread: felt like an allegory for the stresses of divorce, and the way it can feel like the world is ending through a child's eyes to me. I think it was mostly about taking that feeling to its absolute extreme, with hints that maybe the mother was neglectful or even abusive - the way Kaylee says "I don't want to talk about mum" is pretty telling I think. obviously a movie that lends itself to multiple interpretations though, and I'd be surprised if Ball ever offered a concrete explanation on any of it

  22. I’ve had a few weeks to sit with Skinamarink now. The only scene that genuinely scared me was the bedroom one and I think about it often. The rest of the movie was just stressful and I didn’t breathe for 90% of it. I was always waiting for something scary to happen, but it never really got there for me. Maybe I’m just very brave haha. Or maybe it was meant to be that way. Like when you’re a kid alone in the dark and you’re expecting something scary to happen but nothing actually does since there’s not anything actually there. But regardless, I think the movie was interesting but it’s not one I’ve craved to watch again. Feels like a movie that’s best to just watch when you’re home alone at night. So next time my wife goes out of town without me or something, maybe I’ll throw it on. I am kind of interested to see if I like it more the second time or not, since I know what it’s all about now and what to expect (and not expect.)

  23. It’s the classic one. The sequels are all pretty dumb to me. Sequels rarely hit as hard as the original. The newest one was decent though.

  24. I kind of enjoy that they're getting dumber haha, leaning into the whole self aware bit
