  1. Fright Night (1985) was awesome! Just watched it for the first time.

Possession was so wild and certainly delivered on all the constant hype and praise it gets. Need some time to sit and unpack that sheesh.

In other news, I threw PossessER on after and it still absolutely rules. So stoked for Infinity Pool

  3. Yeah got an Infinity Pool trailer in theaters last night and it was nuts

Sick was highly enjoyable. It made me anxious from the beginning reliving early moments of the pandemic as well as the score contributing to it.

Silly at times, excellent pacing, classic Williamson.

I appreciate the Sick reviews… I want to watch it.. just not there yet mentally.

  6. Probably gonna throw that one on tonight.

  7. Ughhh. Sick was lean and mean and pretty fun for the first hour but this reveal/twist is NOT it.

edit: yeah, bummer. Felt like a big slap in the face during an otherwise really effective slasher. Really knocked it down a peg for me.

I really liked Sick, I understand why the gut reaction to [REDACTED] would be like “hmmmmm” but I really don’t think it’s trying to say anything productive about the topic beyond “wouldn’t it be fucked up if this happened”

  9. I also don't think it was trying to say anything particularly important, but in general the idea that pro-maskers upset about their son dying from COVID are villains hunting down the person who gave it to him is bad and weird

I wasn't a big fan of the twist. I also didn't care for Parker much haha. Other than those things I had a fun time with it

Evil Toons (1992) is Who Framed Roger Rabbit but is somehow more horny and has Dick Miller.

Watched Skinamarink tonight, HOO BOY was that an experience. Like out the gate, totally can understand why people didn’t like it. It definitely asks a lot out of you to watch a lot of ambient, sparsely lit scenes scored by old cartoons with much less plot and many people are not gonna be down with that. However, I think that’s the film’s true strength. Staring into the swirling dark film grain with the hiss of film in the background while trying to make out the dim imagery really makes your mind wander, I felt genuinely uncomfortable at times because I didn’t know what was gonna happen and I was constantly in fear of something just running out of the darkness at the screen.

Also, I definitely think the movie is about the boy being in a coma (It’s mentioned in the beginning that he fell and hit his head) and he’s slowly dying, which would explain why things are disappearing in the house, why he ended up being alone in the dark ultimately, and 572 days was how long he was in it before he died. Plus I’m very certain that the face he saw in the end was Death or some equivalent.

I’m home now and I still have the creeps from watching that. I was the lone person in the theater and I think that not only enhanced the movie but it forced me to be brave at parts, I felt like a scared little kid myself. So yeah, definitely loved it and I won’t forget about it anytime soon.

the kid falling stood out to me too, but the part about him being in the coma and death being the face at the end totally add up. Good theory.

  24. I'm on board with the first part of that theory, but not the second. I also think the movie is much scarier if the presence in the house is real and truly just torturing Kevin on an endless loop
