  1. Have to finish it today, about half an hour left. it's okay. Fun, hard for me to dislike a movie like this, but def a step down from the first so far. Still enjoying it for what it is!

Never seen Black Christmas or Krampus. I’m feeling a double feature today since the ice storm cancelled most of my work holiday today!

I have today off and undecided what I want to watch.

  7. The last segment was really bad lol just really uneven unfortunately. Fun, but weaker than most anthologies.

    horror and horror-adjacent 2022:

crimes of the future (way more sci-fi than horror to me but it’s my moty and it’s on all your lists)
    dark glasses
    bones and all
    mad god
    pearl
    nope
    the munsters
    orphan: first kill
    you won’t be alone
    skinamarink
    smile
    x
    terrifier 2
    halloween ends
    bodies bodies bodies

    bitter disappointment:
    scream ‘22

best first 30 minutes of a horror movie:
    barbarian

    not good at all:
    the invitation
    prey for the devil

    still need to see:
    resurrection
    watcher

best horror movie from the past i saw for the first time this year:
    the shout (1978)

horror/horror-adjacent director i grew increasingly obsessed with over the year:
shinya tsukamoto (tetsuo the iron man, kotoko)

Black Christmas was fantastic. The phone calls are insanely creepy and movie was definitely ahead of its time. Will be an annual Christmas time watch.

Mad God was beautiful, I don’t think I counted it as this year but it’s a freak show worth watching

  13. Mad God has so much grotesque brilliance in it. Such a treat for fans of stop motion. The live action bits really took me out of it though and knocked it down on my list. Wish they could’ve found a way to make the whole movie stop motion animated.

Yule Log was really fun! Loved the first scene inside the fire place without spoiling anything. A lot of bizarre choices.

as a fan of tetsuo, alice, etc. live-action and stop motion interacting is basically the creepiest and coolest effect. when the doctor appeared in mad god i was like… oh, this movie is special and is going to keep pulling the rug from under me. and it did

i mean it was already special for starting off as a stop-motion dante’s inferno with shitting monsters and exploding automatons but i think it’s wonderful that it pivots into both more perverse and cosmic territory

For those that have seen Yule Log, does it ever leave that perspective?

Yes, I’d say only about 1/3rd of the film is in that faux one shot style

Watching Christmas Bloody Christmas right now. It's actually a lot of fun. Think I'm going to follow it up with Violent Night.
