My favorite thing about Nope is that it fits perfectly into my “summer horror movie” rotation.

very nice communal list. guess I've gotta watch Fresh (and maybe Sissy though the comparisons to Bodies x3 are not a positive for me)

It’s weird how Sissy feels similar to Bodies in a lot ways, but they’re like really different at the same time. They use a similar language but really different tones.

Id recommend Sissy no matter how you feel about Bodies.

  4. I didn't like Deadstream but I did like Bodies x3 and Sissy. I made this chart but idk if it'll help, and I'm not 100% sure I even agree with it at this point

lol I'll definitely check it haha just slightly less enthused than I might have been

I think how I feel about Bodies was how you felt about Deadstream unfortunately. just found it really annoying and kind of self-indulgent in an offputting way. I can see how people find Deadstream annoying, but it knows exactly what it wants to be in a way that works for me, it also has 3-4 of the straight-up funniest lines of the year for me. Bodies got maybe one real laugh out of me the whole way

I'm in the Bodies and Sissy were great, Deadstream was super annoying camp.

saw Black Christmas (74) last night for the first time and loved it. Are either of the remakes worth watching?

1974 is so so good and truly stands the test of time. I have heard most folks speak highly of the 06 remake (I cannot speak for it myself). I can speak for the 2019 remake and you should avoid it.

I've heard both are pretty bad, but haven't seen them myself so don't take my word for it haha

the original really is a masterpiece though. such a genuinely eerie atmosphere over the whole thing that really stays with you for days after. maybe the most terrifying human villain in Billy, and surprisingly fleshed-out and interesting character work even for the supporting characters, at least by slasher standards. absolute classic movie

the 06 remake is a lot of fun. The most recent one isn't good but I don't hate it as much as most people do lol. It's just kinda messy

2006 is good. It’s a time capsule of the 2000s with its gore and somewhat mean spirit. A worthy remake, the most recent is meh.

  14. Yeah, I don't remember 06 (just been a while, need to revisit) but re: 2019, it's fine until the ending, which is really bad. Not the worst movie I've ever seen, not great, just kind of middle of the road. Which are, in fact, sometimes the worst movies.

  15. World's Fair took a second watch to click with me. The slowest of slowburns, really unique vibe that takes some patience (not unlike Skinamarink) but will click super hard with some people.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't have a lot of interest in Violent Night.

Has this world stopped asking what it's thinking?

Black Christmas (2006) is hyper violent and, as mentioned, a little mean-spirited. I would recommend it if you like gore and want to see an over-the-top version of the original.

When I visited home for Thanksgiving, my girlfriend and I made my parents watch Black Christmas. 15 minutes into it, my mom started asking if it was a comedy, and then said she wasn’t going to watch it because the cat was going to die. My dad said nothing about the movie from start to finish, so I am assuming he did not enjoy it either.

My girlfriend and I loved it as much as we do every year, although we both wanted to strangle my parents.

I don't think either of my parents have seen a horror movie in 30 years

My annual rewatch of Krampus (2015) only reinforces it is the superior Michael Dougherty holiday film.
