An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

did Day and Return of the Living Dead tonight. it's interesting watching these back to back, considering they came out within a year of one another but are wildly different

I mean a lotta stuff about Day has not aged great. the whole look of it is pretty cheap and flat (tho my DVD is a pretty cheap secondhand so it's not the best source I guess). some really egregious overacting and rough dialogue especially compared to Dawn. opening and closing the film with dream sequence jumpscares just feels cheap and kinda beneath Romero's talents. put all that aside though, approach it as camp and man it's a fucking lot of silly fun. absolutely the worst in the original trilogy but arguably the most purely entertaining too

I mean cmon: CHOOOOKE ON EEEEEEEMMMM

then you have Return which by all rights should have aged even worse, so rooted in a specific style and aesthetic of its decade, but somehow leans so hard into all of it with a smile so hard that it almost feels.. timeless? I mean goddamn this is a great movie, hilarious, stupidly genius, genuinely terrifying zombies, pitch perfect acting and script. you could write a whole thesis about the ways this thing works, but it's so much fun to watch you'd just keep getting distracted

I mean cmon: SEND. MORE. PARAMEDICS

Agreed. The story was interesting and had an open end for more sequels. I really liked Sienna as a final girl. There are some kills that I won’t stop replaying in my head.

yeah I'm glad this one had more story and I'm glad the story was actually fairly decent. The kills were awesome, I feel like the ones that keep standing out in my mind are her friend and the dream sequence.

I also just love how Art was in this one. He felt funnier yet more menacing.

I didn’t love VHS99. I liked some of the ideas but don’t think any segment was particularly good.

  9. I'm scared of clowns, but I don't find Pennywise scary because he's a clown, he's scary because he eats children. I don't think I can watch Terrifier

Yeah, I'm all for violence and gore in horror, but Terrifier 2 still feels too mean spirited at times.

This is how I kinda felt after the first one tbh and part of the reason I had no interest in the sequel but I was curious after the good reception

  16. The runtime has me most curious, will be watching even if I had mixed feelings about the first film.

I do think it's better than the first one. But yeah, some torture scenes just didn't sit well with me

Revisited Nightmare On Elm Street today and it’s still great. Always a consistent horror film and still to this day great practical effects/techniques. Now
I need to re watch that documentary!

Absolutely love the IDEA of Dashcam (vehicle dash cam captures creepiness) but 15 minutes in and this is some of the worst shit I’ve ever watched and am completely fine with every character dying miserably and immediately lol.

Literally the only reason I’m letting it continue on as background noise (although the main character is awful as a full blown MAGA chud) is to see how the characters die (and gonna Google to make sure that actually happens because if they don’t then I’m really not gonna waste my time with this)

  22. Second time I've heard about that character, is it like played ironically or for laughs or anything?

  23. MrDaveH

    Regular

She's played straight and is the protagonist.
They might be trying to be funny, but it does not come off as funny at all.

Worst movie I've seen this year, easily.

Just watched the first terrifier and don’t know I feel. The second one being 2.5 hours seems insane to me.
