    Yeah I agree with this.
Those 2 segments were the standouts and the rest were forgettable to fine. Not as bad as part 3, but nowhere near as good as `94 for me.

Gonna try to get through both seasons of Castle Rock on DVD(/Hulu) by the end of the month and mayyybe also All of Us Are Dead on Netflix. Plus a few more movies here and there, make use of the Hulu and Peacock subscriptions I didn't have before.

Lots of streaming this time around. I haven't been back to the theater since I saw Smile at the beginning of this month. Compare that to September: Jaws, Barbarian, and Pearl (and Don't Worry Darling, I guess?). The only other big horror movie out now I haven't seen is Halloween Ends and I'm not about to start a franchise with the one with Ends in the title. I wish The Menu was set to release this month instead of November.

I can't believe I got through 31 movies last October. Maybe the only reason I'm not doing that now is I'm going through more shows, that obviously takes longer to get through, but still, I must've been so fatigued. I don't think I watched any horror after that for months.

Did Terrifier really do that well monetarily to warrant a more expensive sequel? Or even just a sequel? I personally thought it sucked.

Terrifier was so fun and Art the clown is memorable. That’s what I want in a slasher.

I just don’t really find clowns scary. I know for some it could be a genuine phobia, but it’s never moved the needle for me in horror. The original IT 2-part tv series is the only one that I enjoy, and all credit goes to Tim Curry.

I don’t find clowns scary either, but if I encountered Art in real life I’d peace the fuck out in a hurry

Never been a big Chucky fan, but I just watched season 1 over the last week and loved it.

The sequel has pulled in over 2 million in a 550K budget and has received much better reviews than the first one so I’d say it was definitely warranted.

For sure. It's doing very well with its limited release.

I still need to watch the first one. We might tonight.

Just ran through another round of the new Halloween trilogy. Watching kills right after 18 really puts into perspective how strong 18 was. I’d take a full 2 hours of the camera tracking Michael as he moseys around Haddonfield during trick or treat. That scene, alone, is stronger than any sum of kills and ends.

Anyone in here still offering an invite to their plex server? I’m out of things to watch and want to keep spooky season going

Had this at my favorite dive bar yesterday. It was delicious and the alcohol % was 6.66

  20. Second film is Popcorn. So good, absolutely bonkers. I watched this one on YouTube a couple years ago in quarantine.

  21. Okay, so...Pearl is my favorite film of the year lol. I think it might be West's masterpiece. Really did not expect that after thinking X was good, but not great. The writing is tighter (no doubt partially due to Goth's involvement as a co-writer), the direction, cinematography, and color of the film are pristine, and above all, Goth gives a career-defining performance. I understand the reason it was released after X, but I think Pearl actually works better as a standalone film. It exceeded my expectations and presented something truly fresh and unsettling. Five stars.

I know some folks said it made them like X more, but I think I actually like it a little less on third (lol) watch? Still very fun and strange, but watching both films on succession asks more questions than they answer. Maybe that (and the tonal shift) are intentional, but it still doesn't quite line up for me. The cinematography, casting, and performances are all great, but it feels strange that the themes are treated so much more shallowly than they are in Pearl. End of rant, but at the end of the day, still just stoked that we're getting a new horror franchise from a super talented director.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

damn, well now I'm intrigued. I've said this many times, but Ti West is super frustrating to me, comes out swinging with one of the best horror movies of the decade in House of the Devil and then never lives up to it again. I always have this feeling with his films (especially X) that he's right on the verge of greatness and he just never gets there for some reason

if Pearl bucks that trend, lord I'm ready

  23. If you liked House of the Devil (also my previous favorite of his), I think you will like Pearl. Def report back.

Saw Terrifier 2 last night and thought it absolutely kicked ass. Took the things I liked about the first and cranked them up to 10.
