  1. Well, since we're (almost) halfway through the month, it seemed like a good time to recap what I've watched this month. Here's my list (I'm ahead) along with my Letterboxd rating and where, if anywhere, it's streaming:

    1. Crimes of the Future - 4/5, rented
    2. Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster - 3.5/5, HBO Max
    3. The Prowler - 4/5, Shudder
    4. The Munsters - 3.5/5, Netflix
    5. What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? - 4/5, HBO Max
    6. The American Scream - 4.5/5, Peacock
    7. Deadstream - 4.5/5, Shudder
    8. Hellraiser (2022) - 4/5, Hulu
    9. Muppets Haunted Mansion - 3/5, Disney+
    10. Sleeping With the Enemy - 3/5, HBO Max
    11. The Editor - 3.5/5, Shudder
    12. The Hand That Rocks the Cradle - 4.5/5, Hulu
    13. Young Frankenstein - 3.5/5, HBO Max
    14. Halloween Ends - 2.5/5, Peacock
    15. Hellraiser - 4/5, Shudder
    16. The Crow - 4.5/5, own (looks like it's on Showtime)
    17. Nightbeast - 4/5, own (looks like it's on Peacock and Tubi)

Planning on Hellraiser 2 with JBB and Out There Halloween Mega Tape tonight.

Forgot my guy Tyland Lannister is in Halloween 2018. Are there other instances of true crime podcasters ending up victims in horror movies? Seems like something that would have been more of a trope

  4. Lights Out was pretty good. Teresa Palmer was pretty. --good! Pretty good. gah I'm so gay. Movie is effective and efficient but doesn't do anything out of the ordinary or unexpected. Hadn't heard anything when I bought it, didn't go in with any expectations. Interesting deleted scenes on the dvd, I like the alternate ending better.

i was way too young when I saw it so it scared the hell out of me. I have pretty vivid random memories of Creepshow 2 and all 3 stories from it. I think my older siblings made me watch it haha. The Raft one was terrifying for me. But for whatever reason, “Thanks for the ride, lady!” has stayed in my head over the decades

Halloween Bends. The painful muscle cramping throughout my body as one of my all time favorite franchises crashes and burns in a heaping mess of ideas chucked at the wall for a finale.

a few excellent moments of cinematography, but much like Kills, a lot of left field choices I can’t fully wrap my head around.

To be honest I’m p sure I felt the exact same experience with Star Wars:

TFA: Revitalized favorite with plenty of homages, OG cast members we never expected back, and fan pleasing decisions.

TLJ: Ok, this looks cool, but are we just ignoring everything from the other film? Why is the script so bad? Guess I’ll see the payoff for this confusion in the finale.

TRoS: Ok I want off this ride.

If you've never seen the short it's based on, it's a quick, fun little watch.

And also yes, I 145% thought Michael hopped on the back of that dirt bike and laughed my ass off. Was hard moment to come back from and get into the spooky feeling again.

Yes I actually really enjoyed lights out! I re-watch it every once in a while. I like Teresa, kid isn't super annoying, fantasy bf who wants a srs relationship and is loyal, a dedicated best friend ghost who will follow u everywhere... has all the things.

  15. Just finished rewatching Midnight Mass. Just masterful through and through. The story, acting, monologues, music, all of it. As much as I enjoyed Midnight Club, of course it pales in comparison. Everyone who returned in Midnight Club was better in Midnight Mass.

Midnight Club may be the weakest Flanagan show, but I didn't think it was bad, maybe I'm in the minority. Some people found Ruth Codd's character annoying, but I liked her immediately, and her episode only solidified that, Ruth gave a powerful performance. I think all the kids did a good job, I think it's fine the adults were better in other things, let the younger actors shine. I do hope there's a second season, of a Flanagan show, for once.

Deadstream would be so much better if the main guy didn’t have the most annoying scream of all time

my halloween horror marathon so far (excluding rewatches and new theatrical releases):

    1. blood theatre (1984)
    2. blood dolls (1999)
    3. blood freak (1972)
    4. oasis of the zombies (1982)
    5. night of the zombies (1980)
    6. night of the demon (1980)
    7. a night to dismember (1983)
    8. one dark night (1983)
    9. alone in the dark (1982)
    10. darkness (2002)
    11. day of the reaper (1984)
    12. winterbeast (1992)
    13. monster dog (1984)
    14. the last slumber party (1988)
    15. sorority party massacre ii (1990)
    16. runaway nightmare (1982)

most of these are direct-to/shot-on video trash or exploitation that would only play at the most decayed-ass grindhouse theaters and i've been having a great time. the one i would unambiguously recommend to less-psychically-damaged horror fans is "lost classic" alone in the dark, which is only available for free on youtube lol

rest of my list is here: https://letterboxd.com/unbornwhiskey/list/halloween-2022-dead-by-dawn/
