I haven’t actually watched it yet, but Eyes of Fire supposedly rules.

Nice! I actually downloaded that a while ago and never watched it.

  4. Great picks! Have not seen Alena, so I'll add that to my list. Been meaning to rewatch Dog Soldiers, too.

What is everyone’s current favorite horror director? Mine is Scott Derrickson. Jordan Peele is right behind him.

  6. That's a great question. Peele is up there. I really like Garland and the guys that did Ready or Not and Scream 2022. LaMartina is a personal favorite. Whannell is great and I'm looking forward to whatever Branden Cronemberg does next.

The legend that is James Wan.

Probably would be Leigh Janiak (Fear Street trilogy) or Radio Silence (Scream 2022, Ready or Not).

I forgot about the directing duo that made Scream and Ready or Not. They’re easily a top 5 right now.

  9. For me, it's easily Ari Aster. Wan, Peele, and Garland are up there for sure. If Fede Álvarez can give us another horror movie, he'd probably be in the mix as well, but it's been forever.

  11. Agree with a lot of y'all. Aside from Flanagan I don't know if I have a favorite director, but I can tell you who's directed some of my favorite horror films (and if I left anything out from them I either didn't see it or didn't like it as much as the ones I did list, or it wasn't really as horror-y)

But first, a special shout-out to the womennnn

Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), Julia Ducournau (Raw, Titane), Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), Nia DaCosta (Candyman), Karyn Kusama (Jennifer's Body) and anyone else who was involved with xx

Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep), Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope), Ari Aster (Midsommar), Robert Eggers (The VVitch), Radio Silence (Ready or Not), James Wan (Malignant), Alex Garland (Annihilation), McG (The Babysitter 1-2), Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day 1-2), Radio Silence (Ready or Not), David Robert Mitchell (It Follows), John Krasinski (A Quiet Place 1-2)

I haven't seen enough of Sam Raimi's earlier work, but I do think Doctor Strange 2 has enough horror elements to be considered a horror movie (or, idk, horror-adjacent?), and it's a damn good one.

  12. Ya there are a lot of women directors to be excited about. Rose Glass (Saint Maud), Hanna Bergholm (Hatching), Issa López (Tigeres Are Not Afraid), and Coralie Fargeat (Revenge) all made really strong horror debuts.

  13. Seconding Ducournau, Aster, and Eggers for sure

I gave up on it. I enjoyed the other seasons but couldn't get into this one at all. I hated almost every character. After I think 4 episodes I just skipped to the end.

  15. For any Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead fans, here's the teaser for their new movie. I haven't loved any of their movies yet, but their work is always intriguing at the very least.

I watched the first 3 today, hope to finish tomorrow. I plan to see it through since there's not much left but i Mostly agree though none of these characters are likeable outside of Paula Brancati.

probably getting my hopes up for nothing but that really looks like the third in the Resolution/Endless trilogy. I'll be so happy if it is

  19. Resolution rips, Endless a little less but still very interesting

they work really well as a double showing, I showed both to my brother when he came around recently and we both really enjoyed. when Endless first came out I was definitely a bit whelmed though

I'm at the point where I'm just in it for the gore. Most of the plot feels plodding and dumb. The resolution to this one was even more of a head scratcher than in the past. The reveal was decent, but everything after was just perplexing and predictable, I guess? It was just weird and not the way I would have told the story.
