  5. Okay, so the bar for Texas Chainsaw sequels is pretty low. I don't think any of the really match the sheer brutalism of the original, so I think the best sequels either go a totally different direction (like TCM 2) or try something so insane, it succeeds at its own game (The Next Generation). And shockingly, I think the new one kinda does both. I went in with really low expectations, but without thinking too hard (because it is very dumb), it's probably one of the most enjoyable films in one of my least favorite horror franchises. I really enjoyed the gentrification angle, it's shot well, the kills are great, and most importantly, doesn't take itself too seriously. Although it is a little weird that without credits, it's under 80 minutes.

I almost wonder if aping Halloween 2018 was an intentional misdirect considering what happens. Anyways, having watched the last three in the past two days, this would be my current ranking for the series:

    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
    The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation
    Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
    Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3
    Texas Chainsaw 3D
    Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
    Leatherface (2017)
    The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

The new TCM movie was so short that it helped its case haha. Very predictable and cheesy, but loved the kills and the gore. How old is leatherface in this one? At least 70 right? Loved the very ending after the credits.

If someone else does another direct sequel to the original, I wish they would just go all out and place it back in that time period.

Watched the new TCM as well last night and even after some time to process and reflect, I still mostly enjoyed it.

Yeah TCM was pretty enjoyable. Sure the acting and story are super basic/predictable, but I thought the kills were great. I wish it were a tad bit longer, but not bad for a Netflix release.

The TCM bus massacre scene was very similar to the street slaughter scene in Halloween Kills. It was so cheesy, but very entertaining.

Bordello of Blood was also great, I maybe enjoyed it a little more than Demon Knight even. I know Dennis Miller sucks but I actually laughed at a handful of his one-liners lol. Crazy that movie came out the same year as From Dusk Till Dawn.

TCM was fine. I enjoyed it enough for what it was but between this and Don't Breathe 2 I'm kinda over Fede Alvarez as a writer

Saw The Cursed last night and liked it a lot. Very solid folk horror.
