  1. i didn't like Kinds of Kindness or Beau is Afraid but i find them very similar and i think ppl in here who like one tend to also like the other

Yeah that was my point. Maybe I just wasn't in the right headspace when I saw KoK??

  6. I saw a review calling Kinda of Kindness "Yorgos' Treehouse of Horror" and that totally made it work for me

  8. directors of whom i've seen three or more films, ones i like in italics, ones i love in bold

Ari Aster: Hereditary, Midsommar, Beau is Afraid
Robert Eggers: The VVitch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, Nosferatu
Mike Flanagan: Oculus, Hush, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep
Alex Garland: Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men
    Leigh Janiak: Fear Street Trilogy
    Christopher Landon: HDD, HDD2U, Freaky
Jordan Peele: Get Out, Us, Nope
Osgood Perkins: The Blackcoat's Daughter, Longlegs, The Monkey
Radio Silence: Ready or Not, Scream 5, Scream 6, Abigail
Ti West: The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers, X, Pearl, MaXXXine

sometimes you see a movie and you're like, I'm gonna love everything this director makes! but then you don't. Garland is probably the biggest example of this, i hated Men and have zero interest in seeing Civil War and Warfare

a lot of directors are two for two right now. Julia Ducournau, Jennifer Kent, Jane Schoenbrun. Parker Finn.
pretty excited for the follow-ups to Barbarian, Talk to Me, and M3GAN this year.
Dave Bruckner: I love The Night House and Hellraiser but haven't seen anything else
Diablo Cody: not a director, but worth mentioning bc I absolutely love Jennifer's Body and Lisa Frankenstein
David F. Sandberg: I like Lights Out and Until Dawn. I ain't watching Annabelle.
Leigh Whannel: The Invisible Man and Wolf Man were okay, he's written way more than he's directed
Adam Wingard: I love You're Next and The Guest but haven't seen anything else
Edgar Wright: I need to rewatch the Cornetto Trilogy, haven't seen them in a while, but i love Last Night in Soho

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

threw on the OG Final Destination for the first time in forever. a couple thoughts I had:

    - Devon Sawa is such a good Final Guy, just really likable and fun. up there with Elijah Wood in The Faculty as a fave
    - I totally forgot about the victims seeing a spooky black Death Shadow right before they die lol. it's a fun X-Files type touch but I'm glad the sequels didn't keep that going
    - speaking of XF I doubt most of the original script submission for it stayed in the movie, but you can kinda see it in the two FBI agents here and there. very easy to imagine Scully saying "don't take this the wrong way, but you give me the creeps" line to Mulder
    - Tony Todd is so goated obviously and I wonder if the original idea was that Bloodworth was actually gonna be Death or something along those lines. jumping back from Bloodlines to this he is uhh a lot more menacing lmao
    - fuckin' movie slaps

Holy shit, The Ugly Stepsister fucked me up/rules. Not a woman so I can’t even imagine, but as someone with body dysmorphia, self-esteem issues, medical trauma, chronic illness/crohns, hair loss, addiction, etc. — this really hit hard on many levels and got under my skin. Realistic body gore always gets to me too so if I have to look away you nailed it. Some incredible cinematography and effects. This has the potential to end up becoming a staple/obsession.

No Bloodlines for me because the theater is too packed for my liking so instead a friend and I are going to virtually watch FD 3.

If something happens at the showing I was planning on going to I am crawling into a hole.
