thankfully I didn't really remember the pre release singles I like that Craig seems to be doing what he did with his solo stuff and experimenting a bit more while still having that signature sound
Yea this is definitely destined to be one of the most underrated records of the year. Getting the full Spoon treatment. Every song here is great. And “Blackout Sam” is top tier THS.
Feels so good to have a new record from this band again Only beef is that the keys are too low in the mix
“He said you’re kind of catching me at a transitional time I’m a bright light burning into a dark horse” Love that.
Out of the 4 new tracks they left off, I think A Snake In The Shower deserves to be on this album. Shit, Eureka is really great too.
Confusion in the Marketplace top 5 THS song imo New album is good. Definitely looser than their last two have been, which I’m all about. Not sure there’s anything i want them to close shows with off this or whatever, but it’s a nice record to have from a band that i love as if it were a friend of mine. Musically it’s the best of theirs since Boys & Girls. Lyrically sharp as ever. 8/10 i think, but i agree with all the folks saying it’s a weird experience having had most of the album for a good while beforehand. Also, Knuckles is one of the most quotable songs ever and for that reason alone AKM is in the top 4.
P4K review is excellent. 8.0. Well deserved Loved this tidbit. “The Hold Steady treat rock the way Penn & Teller treat magic: They deconstruct it, demystify it and expose it warts and all, but do so out of love and a belief that its behind-the-scenes machinations are every bit as beautiful and intriguing as the polished final product.“
Didn’t even know this band still made music but this is the first of theirs I’ve listened to since Boys & Girls and it fucking rocks.
I don’t love Heaven in Whenever or Teeth Dreams as much as their older stuff, but those two plus Stay Positive (which I do love) are all worth checking out. At worst there are some definite gems that you missed out on.
Hot take? B&G Thrashing HiW=SP=SS Teeth So yeah I love this album. (I don't know AKM, should get around to it.)
I genuinely like this album a lot, don’t misunderstand me, but I feel like some of these takes are blistering.
I kind of...don’t like this at all? I don’t know why, but I’m really struggling with it. I think it’s because Finn really went all the way back to his speak-sing thing, and I like this band way more when their songs are more melodic. Pretty easily my least favorite record they’ve done at this point.
This record is really fucking good and a definite return to form. I didn't PO the vinyl because I was a little heistant and it was pricey but now I think I need it.
Yeah, I'm feeling a little like that too now and wishing I got one of the smaller packages that had just the LP and poster (which I love), I don't need the whole set so can't justify the big one.
