I’d love to introduce everyone to South Florida hard rock band, The Haunt, who are led by a sister and brother duo, Anastasia (vocals) and Maxamillion Haunt (guitar/production). On their latest record, called New Addiction, The Haunt quickly re-solidify themselves as major players in the Alternative/Hard Rock scene with this album that was produced by Kevin Thrasher (Escape the Fate, Jelly Roll). The set includes The Haunt’s breakthrough single of “Masochistic Lovers,” that features Craig Mabbitt (Dead Rabbitts/Escape the Fate), that showcases the band’s knack for writing big hooks with plenty of emo-laced substance. The Haunt are a great mix of scene nostalgia, paired with powerhouse female vocals, and slick production in the same vein as Greywind, Paramore, and Evanescence. New Addiction lives up its name, because you will likely be obsessed and charmed by The Haunt.

This ten-song effort never wastes time getting down to the business at hand, by quickly making their presence felt on the title track that features a great vocal performance from Anastasia and some cool guitar riffing/electronic elements from Maxamillion. “Bad Omen” features an opening riff from Maxamillion that reminded me of K Flay’s scene classic “Blood in the Cut”, but The Haunt do much more than playing homage to the artists they are influenced by here. Instead, the band channels their love of the darker parts of hard rock and emo by leaning into their strengths. The key single of “Masochistic Lovers” finds The Haunt at their most thrilling, and the cameo from Craig Mabbitt helps the band gain the necessary confidence and swagger in their eclectic brand of rock. The song is sure to help boost their streaming algorithm with the guest spot of Craig, plus the track is a quick hitter at just over a two-minute runtime, which should help with fitting the song in on the crowded radio airtime.

”Blood Red Heart” sounds like if Paramore wanted to make an aggressive hard rock song, as Anastasia, at times, sounds just like Hayley in her vocal approach. “Claws” shows its true colors in the lyrics about letting the “wrong one in”, and the production from Kevin Trasher + Maxamillion showcase the power of The Haunt’s dynamic sound. “Teeth” follows in the sequencing with another great, spiraling riff from Maxamillion while Anastasia sounds like a future star in this scene, with the staying power to make a lasting impact. “Dead 2 Me” recalls taking the right form of revenge on an ex-lover, while “Worst In Me” keeps the topic of toxic relationships and the impact on one’s mental health to heart in a song that is both topical as it is lyrical deep.

The album closer of “Own Me” takes the listener on a thrilling ride to wrap up this latest chapter of The Haunt. The band’s allure cannot be understated, and I’d love for the band to lean even further into their mix of electronica, emo and hard rock styles to distance themselves from this crowded genre that is brimming with talent. The Haunt are here to stay, and I’m 100% here for it.
