I don't know if I should post this here or in the punk thread but does anyone have any news about Strike Anywhere ?
Man I wish, that band was dope. The only time I saw them was opening for Four Year Strong and the crowd was dead
they're still a band, but not very active. they played punk rock bowling in vegas back in may and did a mini-tour last november. i saw them back in 2010 with dead to me and cobra skulls at a bowling alley in richmond. that was a fun show.
Yep. It was at Plaza Bowl on the southside of RVA back when they used to have shows there. I don't think it was a part of Best Friends Day because the show was in March, and BFD happened over the summer IIRC. Edit: Found a flier for the shindig on Last.fm
Ahh yeah I remember going to shows there. BFD was in August, it was cool. I wish it was still around.

I've been away from this for ages... any bands in the vein of The Effort / Defeater / Dangers / Touche Amore / Sinking Ships that are kicking about and worth listening to?
Modern Life Is War just put out a 7" You would probably be into Gouge Away, who are about to drop a LP for Deathwish Frameworks are definitely in the vein of Touche
Death of Nation (with Sean Murphy from Verse/Violent Sons on the mic, and Jay Maas from Defeater on guitar). Free (4/5 of Have Heart). The new American Nightmare record is pretty good and it's a natural progression from the previous record, which came out... 14 years ago. True Love are the best "old American Nightmare" worship band around, they're not really similar to the bands you listed, but you might dig them anyway. Sadly the Modern hardcore wave is pretty much gone now.
Felt in the mood for something heavy today and decided to throw it back with Underminded. Eleven:Eleven goes just as hard as I remembered!
I actually listened to their albums a few weeks back for the first time in years. I used to be really into them.
ONE KING DOWN to Play First Hometown Show in 17 Years This is cool as hell and if we get a new album after this: MIND BLOWN!

WILL be there. Sadly didn't have the extra funds for TIHC this year. I have grown up not only loving OKD but also attending UCH (formerly Northern Lights) for most of my early youth shows. I still catch about 1 a year there. It's pretty remarkable this is happening for the HC scene and a lot of people whom I have not seen at shows in years have been posting about this. Can't wait.
