I've got all the 7" they put out for this release back in the day, but I'm glad it's finally being put out on a 12". The Young and the Restless is my fucking JAM and one hell of a closer. God, 2009 feels like yesterday. As the World Turns is killer too.
New full-length, Life on the Moon, coming out on Iodine Records in September (9/5). Pre-orders just went up, it looks like!
Ahhhh thanks for the heads up! Was able to nab a copy, excited that 9/5 isn't terribly far away from now!
I can see why people would hate it, there’s no denying it. After Tribulation Worksongs I was hoping they would lean more into that direction. So this is scratching an itch I really really wanted. Whenever hardcore bands do the genre shift I’m all for it.
Something about the cadence of Jeff's voice in the verses just reminds me of the bad parts of La Dispute's earlier stuff. I know it's not a direct 1/1 comparison, but it was what I was feeling. It's also impossible for me to listen to any new MLIW and not compare it to Witness because that's a top 10 album of all-time for me and incredibly influential in terms of the loud music I enjoy. It's probably unfair in a way, but it really is a case of they knocked it out of the park so hard with that one that everything else will pale in comparison...even if they've had some great tracks like Stagger Lee and The Survival Fires since.
I'll admit the beginning of the ending took my by surprise but the more I listened to it the more it grew on me. All in all though, this is just one of thirteen tracks so for all we know we could get MLMW/Witness era tunes. Agree though with the La Dispute comparison. DEFINITELY got that same vibe on first listen so much so that I had to rewind for a bit lol. Personally I'd just say it reminded me of early La Dispute rather than "the bad parts" lol. But that's just my opinion! Interesting I wasn't off on hearing the comparisons though.
New band featuring members of Last Lights, Mountain Man, etc. Short, fast hardcore in the vein of Youth Attack stuff, Iron Lung. La Dispute has always been a band I've been able to enjoy instrumentally, but the vocals on their earlier stuff when I gave it a try like 15 years ago have always killed it for me time and time again when I've tried to get into it which is why I refer to it like that. Just a personal preference.
I JUST listened to Mountain Man for the first time in like 10 years while going through a “remember that band you used to like in your early twenties” phase the other night.
