Can confirm, both days were great. Perhaps the funniest thing about the weekend was my brother somehow getting guestlisted. My brother is the cooler sibling out of the two of us. DOM and hard stripes sets were great. Combust doing DTN was also great. Loved naysayer’s set. The Richmond scene is truly doing cool things. Mindforce gave me enough power to get through this week, and that says a lot! Seeing gridiron/NEG again truly made me the happiest. And I loved grooving to angel du$t. That was one of my favorite sets this weekend.
Late reply to this because of life, work, and childcare bullshit (BIG ONE there): but UB was a great weekend. It was cool meeting @Nate_Johnson @williek311 and @Meghin. Nate was an excellent house guest and my wife and kids loved hanging out with you in the mornings before we left. Top 5 bands of the fest for me: Scarab War Hungry New World Man Mindforce Division of Mind Honorary mentions to Collateral, Dynamite, Grand Scheme, No Idols, and Combust for being lower billed bands that brought it. Bought way too many records, but somehow only kept it to two shirts. Good pizza across the street, decent beer prices once I discovered the $4 PBR. All in all, it was a hell of a weekend, and I'm tentatively down to do it again next year barring any unforeseen life circumstances.
We love local journalism in this house (said the gal who works in local journalism and has been sent this a LOT today!)
Some of the best TX bands doing it right now, plus Combust who released my favorite hardcore record of the year so far. Gonna be a sick mini run.
Combust is legit one of the best bands out there right now. Road dogs and the vocalist is one of the nicest people. He stood on stage for almost the entirety of United Blood. Funny enough, Jay from Mindforce introduced them before they played, lol
I unfortunately got stuck in traffic and missed Teenage Wrist (who I really would have loved to see again) but the other bands all sounded good. The crowd was a little weak but there were a lot of 40+ year olds. Plus Whitechapel was playing next door and the Daze tour and Trivium were also in town. But hearing PTW play all of OOD and more was a real joy for me.
Wish they would have played Lazzaro last night (some of the other shows got it) but otherwise I can't complain.
