If I were going to UB I would probably prioritize War Hungry, The Wrong Side, Scarab, and New World Man of the undercard

 

To those from the RVA scene, what the story behind Giants Despair? They used to go by Gypsy?

 

Yep. Kind of like when Spirit Animal changed their name to Holy Land, or when Heavy Midgets changed their name to Fat Spirit, or when Black Girls changed their name to whatever they changed it to.

Seems like it happens a lot around here lol.

Not going to UB, but Hard Stripes, War Hungry, and Killing Pace would be the standouts for me

 

Giants Despair are a Wilkes-Barre area band, members of Cold World and others doing punk/emo, put out a LP under the Gypsy name in 2012

 

very curious considering that one step closer has a song named giant's despair and is also from the wilkes-barre locale.

 

Definitely a continuation of Glow On

i haven't been to UB since 2016 but you could just leave and come back all day, big parking lot near the canal club

 

Not hating but the new Turnstile song just sounds like a Glow On b-side to me.

Gonna agree with this. It isn't bad, but it's definitely gonna continue their ascent into the stratosphere to be one of the bigger bands in guitar music. I haven't clicked on the Turnstile thread itself yet, but I imagine they're fucking loving this.
