any life in your way fans in the house? i think i was at one of the shows where they recorded this footage.
i don't buy it. kids can learn how to screenprint and make their own stuff. i saw the osc kids doing some sewing and what not. they just seem outright trying to make a profit. it's fine, i get it. but i feels like exclusionary behavior instead of inclusionary behavior. i thought the heart of at least positive hardcore was making it a place where everyone is welcome and feel like they can fit in. like how thursday is giving away free merch to unemployed people. feels like a grift. my two cents.
bro you have no idea how much it costs to print merch nowadays. we sell our shirts for $25 using American Apparel 1301 blanks and that's to essentially break even, yeah you can print on shitty gildan shirts with one ink and get away with selling it for $20 but ppl who go to shows aren't going to buy it bc its a shitty blank. you also don't have to buy merch at shows or online you can just go to gigs and support bands by showing up
feel free to put the numbers up. cost of shirts cost of the screen / chemicals cost of ink what else?
im not going to run you a list of costs to prove a point on chorus fm, you're out of touch on this topic gangsta
Bro, don’t come in here and start shit. Just post good music and shows. Good vibes. We are all here for the same thing.
i'm all for the <=$20 one-color DIY screens on a gildan. be realistic here though dude, touring bands need to at least make some cash and wearables have always been the best way to do that. if a band is charging $25 or $30 especially considering the cost of EVERYTHING has gone up over the last few years, then that's fine by me if they need to make some gas money to get from kenosha to iowa city. add a plus to that if you're using a more expensive blank like comfort colors or shaka (which i personally prefer, but that's personal). plus not every kid/band/etc. has access to the equipment to do screenprinting even if it is easy straightforward. selling
Most bands (unless they're like Metallica size) don't make money touring. If it wasn't for the merch, they'd come home broke or maybe not even be able to make it to all of the shows. Pricing people out of shows sucks but merch is 100% a commodity and should be a way for a band to make money.
News to me: it is apparently a grift to... earn a very modest living as a touring band by selling merch at standard market price If a $30 (reasonable price in 2025) t-shirt on a medium-quality blank isnt worth it for you thats fine and all. Dont buy it. But its not some grand conspiracy of them trying to take advantage of people. Band members need to eat and pay their bills the same as the rest of us.
