Belly of a Shark was fun on guitar hero. That was about the extent of my fandom for Gallows. Never really got the hype behind them. However, their vocalist went on to do a classic rock band with the guitarist from HopeCon and I loved that album.
He's now doing music as Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes too Pure Love is by far the worst thing he's done imo
Hard disagree. His heavy vocals were bland to me and grating on my ears after 1-3 songs. I think his stage presence was what really drove people into them. I remember apprehensively listening to Pure Love and then being genuinely surprised by the fact that I liked it so much. But if you’re a fan of Gallows style specifically I can understand why some wouldn’t like it.
I wasn't sold on the Cult Leader EP but Lightless Walk is really cool and has SO MANY influences. I am looking forward to spinning it again.
Gallows with Frank Carter was significantly better than Gallows with Wade. Orchestra of Wolves and Grey Britain are both amazing albums, not to say that the self-titled and Desolation Sounds are bad. They're just in a different league. Check them out if you haven't. Re: Pure Love/Gallows/Frank Carter vox With Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, I definitely think Frank's found the sweet spot in his singing. They still have the personality that he had with Gallows and sound great, but don't sound sterile with they did with Pure Love. I think metallic hardcore is actually an apt descriptor for a lot of bands especially if their guitars are significantly downtuned, and they play heavy, metallic riffs as opposed to the punkier feel of hardcore during it's nascent period. This is further true if we're talking about a band that could arguably fit well into both camps of metal and hardcore like Weekend Nachos, Shai Hulud, Converge, or Code Orange.
Have you ever listened to Gaza? That's a good reference to have in the Cult Leader canon, because their EP is a solid transitional release from Gaza, but Lightless Walk is really when they came out into their own.
Metallic Hardcore is just another way of saying Metalcore. I get why bands do it though. And I agree with everything Frank related you said
One thing to be aware of with Gaza: The band broke up under super shitty circumstances where their vocalist was accused of rape via a Tumblr post. The accuser and the vocalist reached an amicable personal solution behind the scenes, but the rest of the band chose to cut ties with the vocalist and form Cult Leader. Interpret that as you will, but it's made it hard for me to listen to Gaza over the last few years.
