Aside from a few small elements of hardcore rhythm parts and breakdowns, they definitely aren’t writing direct hardcore/punk albums anymore. There’s times where I’ve not enjoyed a band leaving a sound they’re really great at in favor of more popularity and sales (see: Architects). But, Turnstile’s newer albums are really excellent. So much fun live and on record. Old hardcore heads are the most insulated and depreciating in their own scene sometimes.
I remember when Comeback Kid caught so much shit for the shift in tone from WTD to Broadcasting when Andrew moved from guitar to vocals. I think that might actually be my second favorite album from them lol.
Would recommend peeping that Echo Chamber demo, very cool mix of Breakdown and old Bitter End. Never heard of Extortion but I listened to that new one a handful of times. HIRS and Riot Stare tracks are cool too, big fan of the latter in particular.
