Well, Bane hasn't officially come back yet. It would have been cool to catch Zach with ETID a few weeks ago.
I don’t think they’ll be back. Hoping the last date is Sound and Fury. They were supposed to play 2020
What a weird plan. Definitely a bummer. I thought they were just scratching the surface and hadn’t really gotten a chance to see them being in the midwest. Perhaps I’ll luck out with a Chicago date. Edit: it looks Porcupine is hinting at there being a Chicago date. Hopefully that happens.
I have to agree with that last line there, Gulch is definitely one of those bands I could not picture being a legacy kind of thing or doing one off reunion gigs at fests. Part of hardcore’s appeal imo is that it’s a genre of the now and don’t get me wrong, legacies and nostalgia are big elements too but bands like Gulch, their appeal is being this bombastic explosion of energy and I genuinely could not see those dudes pushing like 40 or 50 playing that stuff.
It’s kinda like what Josh Homme said about not wanting to do the Kyuss reunion, there was a time and a place for that band and sorry you didn’t get to experience that or missed out but that time is gone and there’s no point in looking back.
Both bands have put out some incredible records and I am glad they soldiered on. Who knows what could have happened with Gulch. Oh well!
I mean, you could say the same for Cro-Mags, Converge, or other legacy bands, obviously there are some bands who do that. However, not every band can or should do that.
Any band, especially hardcore, should consider it a great career if they make it past like 5 years or two albums.
Yeah, the history of hardcore is full of bands who put out a seminal album, EP, or 7 inch and then straight up peaced out, it’s pretty much a staple element of the genre.
Being a legacy band has its pros and cons. You can either keep pushing and adding your discog like Converge, ETID, etc. or you could end up looking like Madball or Cro-Mags.
