Yeah. It doesn't really matter who's putting on a show like this at this point. It's still fucking stupid. John Joseph also comparing this show to the BLM protests of last summer is some real clown level shit and deserves to fucking be called out.
Yeah there wasn't a breakout after those protests because everyone wore masks, and followed safety protocol. Lots of gloves being handed out, plenty of hand sanitizer, etc. Slight difference than what happened here. The thing that kills me is when people defend this gig by saying "no one's forcing you to go, just stay home"...like ok sure but it's not a personal choice thing when someone goes to Sturgis: NYHC Edition and then goes milling about throughout society.
The number of people who have failed to comprehend this very simple logic over the past year is absolutely staggering.
Hardcore Concert At New York City's Tompkins Square Park Under Investigation Over COVID-19 Capacity Limits
I am so shocked and sad about this. Being 30 years old, a small part of me still held on to the values I thought Hardcore stood for. But this seems like a nail in the coffin for me. Even worse: Under Madball's insta posts about this, members of Pennywise and H2O were cheering at MB playing the show.
I mean, you can still believe in those values. You just have to accept that those people are now old pieces of shit and you don’t have to acknowledge or respect them. They helped create and cultivate this music and culture but they’re now old men who are way out of touch with the times and they now have shitty views that belong on Fox News.
Yes..thank you. But i mean Ian McKaye is also old and kinda out of touch, but he's not an irresponsible asshole. Dunno if age is the factor here...
This is generalizing quite a bit. There are many bands with “old” members who chose not to participate in this or support it, including Roger Miret and AF who are very closely related to Madball.
I was referring to those involved or offering their support of it, I should’ve been more clear on that so that’s on me.
Or maybe these are just old out of touch NYHC dudes who've always had us against the world complexes that have been shaped by a steady diet of the same Fox News-esque BS and crappy social media echo chambers that have influenced a lot of people their age in this country? Or they've always held these shitty beliefs and it's just amplified by social media? I'm thinking especially about Joe Hardcore and John Joseph here. TBH, I don't really know but it's just a further reminder we really shouldn't put anybody on a pedestal.
