So according to A2G, Vein has a DJ now. What does everyone think about that and does that make them nu metal now? Lol
They’ve had a dj for awhile, at least since earlier this year. I still don’t think it makes them nu-metal. Most of the samples are like 90’s breakbeat/drum-n-bass shit, which is cool. They played two new songs when I saw them and they were very good
Vein having a dedicated sample guy/DJ is no different than what Blake does for Pig Destroyer or what Full of Hell had the last time I saw them live. It adds a layer to their music. The only reason this is being brought up in a negative light is because of their nu-metal influence.
When I saw them at S&F I saw him up there but I thought he had a couple drum machines and other electronics but nope he's legit got a deck up there and everything. TBH I didn't hear any scratching or whatever so I don't know why he has it.
I can't help but feel like Refused is hardcore for people who don't really like hardcore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I kinda want to shit on them for making such a big deal of their breakup, and reforming years later for the $$$.
That's Turnstile, man. Regardless, The Shape of Punk To Come will always be a hell of an album. And if you shit on them for that, there are a LOT of other bands that deserve to be shit on for pulling similar things.
Ain't nothing wrong with liking any of those bands or any bands for that matter. All I'm saying is if you're shitting on someone for doing a cash grab reunion, there are 10s of other bands adored by people on this site that could also be included in this conversation.
Yeah, but these bands never claimed to be anticapitalists (edit: except for RATM, and they deserve the current pushback) and did not issue the most ridiculous breakup statement ever, before coming back to play huge festivals and give douchey interviews about being an "anticapitalistic confrontational force". These other bands are aware of how mainstream and huge they are and don't pretend to be anything that they are not.
dude, we get it, refused are somewhat hypocrites. but i'm also of the mindset there's a lot more serious things out there to worry about in the world than what one hardcore band from sweden espouses. if you don't wanna support them, that's fine. they seem to be doing alright otherwise.
A lot of other hardcore bands still respect them so they can't be that bad, lol. (Also, the new record is great!) I'm moving on. I listened to the new A2G yesterday and it was actually a ton of fun despite being three hours.
When I was 15 i heard anti flag and rise against on KROQ so I bought their CD’s. That’s pretty much my introduction to things like American imperialism, animal rights, etc. Sounds cheesy but I’m all for bands doing everything in their power to reach as many ears as possible. They have to operate within the system anyways.
side note - it will be forever amusing to me that refused's last show before their breakup in 1998 was a house show in the city i went to college in with frodus. iirc, one of the darkest hour dudes lived there at the time. i'm pretty sure i ended up drunk there at one point for something else if it's the house i'm thinking of.
