Most of the altercations I've seen aren't even from people that are trying to start shit. It's usually a hardcore kid that accidentally hits a metal dude on the edge of the pit and the metal guy gets all pissed off that he was hit and wants to fight.
Yup, it was HW/JP. However, this was a formal gang. Same colors, shirts with their logo on it. One of the guys spoke to me afterwards and he was the most decent of them, but his opinion was basically "I've been in this gang since I was young, and I have to support my boys" During. And then they followed us outside.
This sounds like a gaggle of fucking dorks if you ask me. Self-proclaimed hard guys who grew up friends with oppressed feelings who didn't get enough hugs growing up. Sorry you dealt with that. The fact that one of them came up to speak to you afterwards to try and "explain" says a lot about their mentality and maturity level.
100%. The worst of them all freaked and handed the worst of the damage after I told him he needed to see a therapist. Because, you know, improving your mental health is for wimps!
Something I always loved about the Albany music scene was that for people who weren't locals or just unfamiliar were never left to fend for themselves if people started acting like tough guys. Nobody would act tough, there would just be an overwhelming amount of heads that would step in and pretty much say "this isn't happening, leave." Show promoters like Dan Brotherhood especially would never let anything like that go down at shows. If it started abruptly, guys would just get snatched up in full nelsons and tossed onto the sidewalk. Friends included.
I'd say most bands promote safe space and encourage everybody to take care of each other but I remember seeing King Nine and the dude was just like be violent and hurt each other.
Also regarding people getting hurt seeing Knocked Loose I definitely think the influx of new people into a hardcore setting is sometimes a recipe for disaster. For a lot of kids its probably they're first time at a heavy show/venue with no barricade. A bunch of people on my twitter were talking about how kids at their LA show were getting on stage and taking selfies/having their friends take photos of them on stage while the bands were playing.
I’ve been to a ton of hardcore shows in and around Boston and have never had issues. Any issues/injuries I’ve seen have been accidental.
lol didn't realize it was that quick, but also I can't access bandcamp at work so I'm listening to stuff I already have downloaded
Did anyone check out the Take Offense album that was released last week? Pretty good stuff! Any fans of Turnstile would definitely like it.
Also got my tix for night 1 of AHC this year. Looking forward to losing at least one or two brain cells
