Any idea what show or what happened? I was at the show last Friday in Dallas and someone got knocked out during Candy but that guy was okay bc he was back to moshing half an hour later. There was an ambulance outside of the venue at the end of the show though, so I don't know if something else happened or...

This by the looks of it, but the girl it happened isn’t demanding any apology whatsoever. Just other people giving their two cents.

They're making this Knocked Loose thing huge in the Accountability in Music thread (a couple of pages back), saying people are in "hardcore gangs" and that they willingly target and hit people who are not moshing.

I have never, ever seen this in nearly 15 years of going to shows, outside of the occasional side-to-side to open up the pit.

  4. Perhaps these guys are part of the FSU. I have no idea if this crew is a US thing only, but I've heard a lot of stories about them back in the ap.net days.

FSU and certain other "gangs" did and probably still do exist, but I've been going to shows for 20+ years and have been to 500+ shows and have never seen a group of people gang up on anyone. I've seen a couple of fights, but they're extremely rare. Though I think it's more regional. Crowdkilling happens, but if you're close enough to the pit to get involved, then that's at your own risk.

From what I've read about the KL incident, the girl got in the pit on her own volition. She never mentions being attacked or pulled into the pit or anything like that. She seems to take full responsibility.

Yeah, pit=at your own risk. The gang theory is a FAR stretch. Yes, FSU was a thing but most bands didn’t tolerate their crap, except for a few.

Like I said, 500+ shows and the only time I've ever been hurt is when I voluntarily acted like a fool.

I think Hardcore is massively misunderstood by a vast majority of people in the rock music world, including 99% of this site. The idea that Hardcore is totally filled with people just fighting each other and breaking each others limbs at every show is absolute nonsense.

Doesn't seem like the girl was targeted. She stated on her account she is putting blame on the American healthcare costs and not the band, venue, or other people. It's a really sad situation, I can't imagine.

Condemning an entire music scene and acting like the band are bad people is, a bizarre way to process said situation.

FSU is not an active thing like it was. Knocked Loose is too young of a band, not even remotely the type of band FSU guys would go for or attend shows of. Anybody talking about being associated at shows nowadays is likely a herb trying to sound cool.

Gang type shit is a thing of the past. Shows HAVE evolved into more of a horseshoe shape in terms of the pit, which I think is directly linked to how people mosh now. Fewer people want to go up front because crowdkillers will hit them in the back of the head.

Why put yourself at risk for some asshole that thinks they’re cool?

Like any music scene, hardcore has some bad apples in it. In the case of Knocked Loose, the bad apples they bring out are the hard-moshing crowdkillers...not saying everyone who moshes hard is a dick, but when you intentionally target and crowdkill, it's a different story. I'm talking more about the "IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET HIT, AVOID THE PIT" jagaloons.

Combine that with the fact you've got a band with growing popularity who's probably bringing out new kids and the type of people who go to a limited number of shows a year, you've got a recipe for more incidents to happen.

And if Knocked Loose is a new gateway band for people to get into hardcore, I'm all for it.

I remember years ago I went to a show and it was Path of Resistance’s reunion. Karl took the mic before hand and said if you have any intention of hurting someone GTFO and we will stop playing if someone does get hurt and call the show off and address it immediately.

There was only one band I ever saw that generally encouraged chaos and violence at their shows, and that was On Broken Wings. They were actually blacklisted for a long time by many venues for such things. I also recall some iffy stories about King 810.

As for bands that had FSU members actively present or that i'd heard of gross shit happening at their shows, It was never in the way that reddit stories or other things like that describe imo. No big groups of guys wearing FSU shirts, or talking about it for that matter. No five guys all beating down one kid. Usually it would be drunk bar goers or somebody moshing who was unaffiliated was getting too close/hits an edge kid and then it would be hell.

You basically learned who was who and watched who they talked to and hung around at shows, and you'd notice more or less of them depending on the bands/tour. Generally speaking, the shows I attended where I felt unsafe and noticed people getting crowd-killed were of bands I either knew ahead of time that "FSU" types were not a fan of and wanted to make a point towards, or they were beloved bands like Death Before Dishonor and Ramallah.

I was literally jumped by a hardcore gang 2 months ago. This shit is not "a thing of the past". I wish it was.

The more brocore bands still attract shit heads who think it's cool to beat people up and target in the pit because "it's just dancing".

In general, the FSU/skinhead type gangs we're speaking about aren't as prevalent as they once were. Not to downplay what happened to you (I'm sorry that it did happen), but it seems more than likely you got targeted by some jackass hardcore kids as opposed to a formal gang, especially if it were at a Harms Way/Jesus Piece show. Unless there's a local hardcore gang in your area that I'm not familiar with.

There is a band over here called Lotus Eater where the singer at a festival said "I have a confession... I like to see people get hurt." It was clearly a joke but it did make me think twice about getting involved.

That’s really shitty and I’m sorry that happened to you. Was it during the show or following the show?

I’ve been real lucky to see my local shows move away from that sort of behavior. It’s clear that those kinds of people/behavior isn’t welcome.

I’ve seen Terror a few times recently and Scott talks about how better shows have been for his band have in the last several years. Little to no fights in comparison to the early days of the band when it was extremely common.

I’m usually the big guy at the shows pushing the more aggressive “dancers” away from the smaller people that just want to see the band. It’s sad but I tend to get more respect because I’m tall/bigger. That’s not how it should be though.

    As @BTDandFeelingThis says: “I’m a giant” lol

to be fair, I saw Great American Ghost a couple weeks ago and he said "I want to see someone get thrown through that guardrail" and then it happened (albeit, to someone who was actively pitting and they weren't injured)

I've heard multiple bands say "if the person next to you is standing still, grab them and throw them in the pit"

Lamb of God (and bands before them) used to orchestrate the wall of death, until they realized how dangerous it actually turned out to be

Bands definitely encourage "activity" at shows, but anyone old/mature enough to attend a show should understand the difference between having a good time and trying to hurt someone.

I enjoy Vincent from TAS onstage in regards to this. Generally great guy stopping sets and calling out fighting at shows.

To be honest, the last confrontation I saw at a show was between two very grown women in the opening song of Dashboard Confessional.

I remember a period where, in the UK at least, you could not go a rock, punk or metal show without two stepping knobheads in Terror hoodies going mad. It happened once at Taking Back Sunday for god sake.
