I like what hardcore I've heard but I gotta say I still feel like a total newcomer to the genre. What are the artists I 100% need to hear?
Some of the ones I like are Comeback Kid, Turnstile, Minor Threat, Youth of Today, Strife, Gorilla Biscuits, Bane, Expire, True Love, Friend or Foe, Have Heart, Verse, among others. That should be a fairly decent mix of old and new.
Modern Life Is War, The Suicide File, American Nightmare, Killing The Dream, and pretty much what the guy above me posted.
Ceremony (first three records, though I like what came after), Blacklisted, American Nightmare(aka Give Up the Ghost), Negative Approach, Bad Brains, Void, Swiz, Bane, and Paint it Black are some of my favs. Some newer bands I like are Give, Turnstile, Angel Du$t, Pure Disgust, Freedom.
Fury, Mizery, Blacklisted, Sweet Jesus, Down To Nothing, The Beautiful Ones, Cold World. Most of the bands that others have recommended are great too.
Some of them are repeats, but yeah, that person has a lot of listening ahead of themselves haha. I think that's a good thing. Save down some of the band names and start going through on your spare time. Note the things you like and the ones maybe not so much. As you go through, look into each band's tours or bands they are promoting and jot those down. If you are on Youtube or Apple Music/Spotify, look at the related artists. That's just what you have to do when getting into a new genre of music. At least he is getting a good amount of bands to start into, and I'm sure he has heard some of these if he is coming in here too.
Love that aspect. Listen to the new true love record on my way to work. or listen to an entire nails record on my 15 min work break.
Integrity is definitely a band you should be familiar with. Just ignore Integrity 2000, and pretend it doesn't exist.
No kidding, man, haha. Seriously though, I appreciate the massive response, all. I've really been trying to expand my horizons a lot more these days so this makes for a great start. Thanks, everybody! I will probably report back on some of these.
Yeah I went with the bigger old names I frequent. Blacklisted and Ceremony being two huge overlooks on my part from personal favorites. Newer hardcore bands I've like are TUI, The Beautiful Ones, Knocked Loose, Incendiary**********, Turnstile, and Power Trip.
Knocked Loose is one of the few hardcore bands I actually knew of coming into the genre, hah. Good stuff. Deadringer is such a banger.
I have to go back and listen to Knocked Loose, but I remember them having a sound that has some metalcore-ish vibes going on with an otherwise hardcore sound. While it's not my preferred style, I think it's a good bridge band for younger/newer hardcore fans to get a taste of what "traditional" hardcore is about.
Yeah they do seem to be one of the few bands introducing younger people to hardcore, which is obviously a good thing.
I just love that sound and they found a nitch between their heavy sound and vocalist that stands out. A few tracks were samey, but the record overall was well done. I look forward to seeing them at Souled Out with ETID and Life In Your Way.
