yeah I forgot it was on until like two hours ago. watched the first episode because we're gonna see it through. The last season ended in November 2022! That's way too long ago for a show that started in 2017. I didn't remember anything, the recap hardly helped.
All I can remember is numerous opportunities to escape only to go back to have to escape again. And Elizabeth Moss breathing heavily with her mouth open
Planning on watching this in the coming weeks with my wife. Kinda looking forward to be over with it to be honest because the highs for this show have been high, but the lows have made it down right difficult and unwatchable at times.
my wife and I used to feel that this was the best show on television, heavy breathing and all. the quality fell after s3 and we stopped midway through s4.
I think the problem is the sequel series in development. So this show will have an ending, but the story will keep going in another series and will be directly tied to June. I can't fathom tying myself to a whole other series with the promise of several more years of it at this point.
I’m curious how the sequel will tie June in because she’s hardly mentioned in Testaments, unless I’m misremembering. and I thought the next series was based on the direction of that book.
She is indeed hardly mentioned, but the book is about her daughters and their attempts now to free Gilead. In the book, Agnes is still trapped in Gilead while Nicole slips into Gilead as an agent trying to get her sister out. So one of the reasons this current series will feel sort of unsatisfying - at least to me - is that June’s entire goal this whole series has been to get her daughter out of Gilead and we know she won’t because, in order to see her freed, we’ll have to just keep watching ANOTHER series, which….oof.
The recap at the beginning of the episode was wild. I can't believe how ludicrous this show became over the years. They have strayed so far from anything Atwood was trying to say. This might be the worst show I ever finish.
Got to give you props for at least trying to finish. I was planning on watching the final season, but then when it started up I just didn’t feel compelled to start. I’d ask my wife if she wanted to watch it and she’d just give me this look like “please no I can’t.”
At least half of this last season is people walking in slow motion set to music. This is like trying to finish climbing a mountain.
what a boring ass finale to a show that overstayed its welcome and it doesn't even matter because of the sequel lol
The only thing I really think they fleshed out from the book is Aunt Lydia. She is a true believer in what Gilead claims to be doing, so she would be the one to turn when she realizes what is really going on behind the scenes.
I can't think of another modern show that went from cultural phenomenon to former viewers legit not realizing the show was still even on the air like this.
