I was REALLY into pedals about 15 years ago. Like I posted earlier, I'm much more of a straight into the amp kind of guy now. But give me some weird pedals or OD to put on a bass and I'll be jamming for hours. Jack White's pedals are blast with bass.
My board is pretty simple, Boss TU2->TS9->Keeley Comp->Tumnas->Digitech Flanger->Line 6 Echo Park->RC-3->An A/B/Y box to the Blues Jr (soon to be replaced by a 65RI Princeton I just ordered) and AC15 Play mostly blues stuff nowadays so that's about all I need
I go back and forth between pedals and straight into amp. For recording I’m mostly straight in because I’m running into a reactive load box and cranked volume is a nonissue. (Btw best guitar related purchase ever if you record.) Live I use Wampler Tweed -> BYOC CE2 clone -> Aqua Puss delay -> Gravitas trem -> Klone Can't recommend the BYOC stuff enough.
I've tried all sorts and built all sorts when it comes to pedals. Got a whole drawer full of mostly fuzz pedals I've built and don't use. I have a single channel amp and like having a lot of levels of drive, so my board is mostly different levels of drive, with a wah, reverb and a token delay that I hardly use. Current rig Dunlop Mini Wah -> Polytune -> Pigtronix A Class Boost -> Green Menace -> Plimsoul -> Aquapuss -> Blue Sky. I don't currently have a fuzz permanently on the board, but I think I want something muff based in the mix. Stone Deaf Fig Fumb has been on the wishlist a while. Although, I am curious about something madder, like the Wampler Fuzztration or the Keeley Fuzz Bender.
Just finished up the build, this thing is gorgeous and is the best sounding guitar I’ve ever played, just pure vintage strat tone. I’m so happy with how it turned out
I got one of these in white for sale if anyones interested. not on reverb yet. Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Strat - 3-Color Sunburst with Pau Ferro Fingerboard
Princeton came in! Got a great deal used on musiciansfreind, had very little info on the website and when it showed up I looked inside and found out it had been modded with a 12” Jensen, not mad about it. The low end for such a little guy is great. Think I am set on amps for a while
My Squier Contemporary Jaguar has finally been Matt Skiba-fied. Took five freaking weeks to get the pickguard right, but it was worth it. Love the roasted maple neck on this thing. It has a chunky profile and smooth satin finish. Squier knocked it out of the park with fit and finish too. They definitely compensated the shitty electronics for the quality control. I’d still recommend them though.
anyone play bass in here? how often do bridge pickups get used in indie or rock music? are they basically never used, or do they blend them in with the neck a little? like say the jazz bass bridge pickup.
i do. i think it depends on the sound you’re going for, obviously haha. if i’m doing more laid back muted stuff, yeah, it’s only very lightfully blended in. but there’s some dinosaur jr. type songs i have where it’s full bridge pickup haha p bass might be more for you, but i’ll take the versatility of a jazz bass every day
I just want to make sure what Im missing out on if I get a bass without a pickup close to the bridge Im looking at Hofners and P basses seems most the bands i like use p basses
PBasses are pretty much king of the bass jungle. I'm seeing a lot more PJ Basses over recent years and they make total sense in the rock genre. Pbass body and neck pickup just with a Jazz Bass bridge pickup. Its pretty genius actually. You can totally just get by with a standard pbass though. Most studio session artists record with a pbass because they're more mid-rangy and growly, which in turn cuts through the mix more. Jazz basses are cool because 1.) I find them more comfortable to play with the smaller neck and 2.) They have a unique tone that covers multiple genres. A con for JB's are that they can sound kind of doinky if they're not dialed in right.
I have a MIM fender p bass that i bought 7-8 years ago and it'll play any genre of music. I've never felt the need to buy another bass.
ok lmao what if i get this Squier Mini Precision Bass Electric Bass - Dakota Red with Laurel Fingerboard i think short scale seems easy as a guitar player and from what i can tell in vids this thing still sounds great i also really want this bc i also love that sound
Don’t get the short scale, it’s garbage. Wouldn’t get the Hofner either because while it does sound cool it’s not very versatile sound wise. Just get a P bass, it’s is good for every genre all of the time
