it's a common "issue" with those positions specifically for pretty much all starts. is this the first strat you've owned? it's because in 2, both the bridge and middle, and in 4, both the middle and neck pickups are running in parallel. you dip in volume but you also get the 'quack' starts are mostly known for
pos 2 & 4 cut a lot of frequencies. to fix volume problems raise the middle pickup and lower the bridge and neck relatively - to match levels for pos 1 & 5. I personally like my pickups close to the guard because I think it makes things sound more chime-y.
Anyone have recommendations on a guitar nut file set? Stew Mac definitely seems to sell the best ones but they're like $95 when I'll probably use them a few times! There are a lot of mixed reviews of stuff on Amazon too. Almost too many.
You could just get a V shaped, or square shaped file off Amazon. The guy from reloved guitars uses that on his nuts. Check out his youtube vids, or his ebook about setting up guitars.
The Fender Mod Shop is kind of a joke. There's not many mod/spec options to choose from along with "limited" necks/wood for paying $2k + and get a case. Plus, they don't have Seafood green! Boooo
You all into Matching headstocks or nah? I’m indifferent. I think I’m only into them with certain colors like surf green, sea foam, shell pink...and only/mostly on basses.
I'm starting really like roasted maple necks and headstocks (Throw a rosewood fretboard on there too). Especially, roasted flame maple. Im not a flamed neck kinda a guy, but a flame on roasted maple is something else!
