I've been in a bit of a playing rut the past week or so..I'm just not sure what I want to progress towards next. That's always been my struggle with guitar. I go through cycles of loving various styles of guitar music that I have trouble focusing on where to point and go towards.
Kind of surprised they actually have a specific routing like that on a Squire. Would have thought it would have had a universal pickup route. That's quite cool.
Right? I have an old white squier version and was surprised to see the routing when I took it apart. My friend had the fender version and it was routed for HSS if I remember correctly. Definitely prefer the squire routing since it’s something you don’t really see on anything else.
Squiers have come so far. I kinda want one of those dirt cheap Bullets so I can have a conventional Tele to mess around with.
Bareknuckle Juggernaut. I have a duncan custom going into my other build though. The duncan custom is similar to the super distortion, but it has more clarity and doesn't get so messy sounding. I'm excited to try it.
Are you buying parts and assembling or going from raw materials and shaping/finishing yourself? Just curious I've always been interested in taking the next step from tinkering with the wiring.
I do both. I just don’t do body shaping. I don’t have the machines for that. The jazzmaster was just a White hardtail body i bought And then shopped for decent parts. The pickguard is custom. My dad actually made it for me. a few posts up is a strat I’m building. I painted/finished the body myself. Bought fender parts for it. Finishing a guitar takes patience but the final product is typically worth it. I’d love to start shaping bodies out of blanks. People do it for so cheap if they have the right tools/machines. You should try a full guitar build. Warmoth is actually how I started doing it, but they make cheaper build kits and I’ve seen some turn out amazing if the hardware is quality.
I live in an apt building so idk how I'd do the spray work to finish. I've had different bodies in my cart from warmoth lol, but I always end up with a really pricey build and decide to pass. I want to emulate the parallel series tele with the 3 strat pickups.
haha. I feel you. It’s gets pricey quick in there bc you have so much building a rendering then BAM $600 for a body and hardware with no electronics or neck haha. I say just do it. I have a body on the way from there. I just bought the body/custom color, bridge, Jack, and screws to keep the price down as much as possible. Been having to purchase other parts here and there as i wait bc it’s so much money up front through them. It’s all so addicting.
I think I'm gonna go through with it after some savings this summer. I'll probably reach out when I do for tips on finishing if you don't mind.
This looks great man. How do you find the Duncan Custom Custom? That LTD above has a JB and a '59 and I don't know whether to stick with those or go hotter. I'd kind of been looking for a modern, more aggressive guitar. The JB is almost a bit too nice.
found it on reverb. Jumped right on it because the Seymour Duncan website was sold out. The seller was actually a local dealer too which is kinda crazy. I think they had one more available. I got the Zebra one and i think the second was also zebra. I decided on the Duncan custom because Brian Baker of Bad Religion uses it alongside his p90 guitars. I debated on getting a 59 custom hybrid. I hear those are pretty cool and versatile. I’ve never tried a JB but they will always remind me Of Green Day lol. You definitely can’t go wrong with a 59. 59 Bridge and a jazz neck pair up nicely. My friend did that in his les Paul. if you want something high output with clarity and still cleans up nice, I recommend the bare knuckle juggernaut. Probably the most versatile high output humbucker I’ve ever played. I got the ceramic version. The set is pretty pricey, but the bridge Position is where it’s at, IMO. You can buy bridges sold separately every now or then. They can custom make one for you too.
I'm selling a guitar on OfferUp..a bit nervous about the meetup portion as it's listed for $700. Meeting in public and hopefully I'll be offloading so I can get what I want instead.
What model is this? Looks like an Explorer Custom, but what's the Golden Axe thing all about? What's on the pickup covers? FEEEEED MEEEEEE! What a looker though.
