get the new mxr sugar drive instead of all that Im hearing its the new best klon clone plus its in a mini enclosure
I could even get some fender twang out of it I have nothing bad to say about that guitar also it plays easier action than any other guitar Ive picked up just about
I always hit the middle pickup with my pick when I play on a strat lol I have a cheap tele and a jazzy
On the Klon front, got to throw the Wampler Tumnus out there. Another mini enclosure. Andertons did a big Klon shootout a month or two ago and it sounded bloody great. Absolutely murdered some of its more expensive competition. I turn 30 next month and I'm quite tempted to suggest someone buy me that as a present. :P That being said, there are a number of really good sounding Klon copies.
for ~50 used it’s hard to beat the soul food’s value, but yeah the added functionality of the tumnus is nice
i get it. the majority of them don’t work for me either. but big muffs and soul food definitely do, for me.
Yeah, the latest russian reissue and op-amp reissue are two of the best fuzz pedals out there. I like the soul food well enough, but I really only use it for a boost/buffer. The drive at anything more than noon doesn’t really do much for me.
they can be an extremely wonky brand but theyre one of my absolute favorites. I think that stuffs endearing. the mel9 is a good example of that as only they could do. memory man, big muff, and electric mistress are the best contributions to the pedal game I can objectively think of.
Ive been putting off getting my board together dyna comp > quintessence > snouse black box > charlie brown > memory boy > phase shifter > shallow water > ce-20 > hall of fame 2 > deco
Its got the specific dyna comp sound that you hear all over records for forever super squishy and poppy good for indie and chicken pickin’ but I just use it for everything, always on
Yeah, I think my issue is that a lot of their stuff is either a bit naff or feels like a toy. Like, I played the Memory Boy delay and thought it was pretty fun, but then I played it against an Aqua Puss and a Carbon Copy and it just seemed ridiculous by comparison. I tend to find their delays dark and their drive pedals just a bit grainy sounding for my ears. Not a clue why, because so much of their stuff is really popular, so they must be on records I own and pedal boards live. I actually built my own Green Russian spec muff years ago and kind of liked it. I've owned a couple of other bits by them and just never really loved any of them though. Strange really, when you consider how big their contribution to the game is.
Yeah I dont own any of their drives though they seem good. And Im not a fuzz guy. There exists no better analog delay than the deluxe memory man Inown a memory boy and its true that its one of the darkest bbd’s out there. I love it. Weird sounds for days too if you really want that, like you said.
There was one particularly sound in the Memory Boy that I really liked. You could get this really metallic ping in the repeats using the mod control. Thing is, the Aqua Puss is much much better at being a delay, so I went that way. I've been tempted at times to get a Memory Boy second hand, just for that one stupid noise I like.
Hours of wonky fun on the Boy. Ever played the Man? You might try that one js. they still use the classic bbds. only pedal you can get them in.
What do you mean by classic bbds? You're talking about bucket brigade chips right? I thought Way Huge, MXR and Wampler were all still making analogue delays with those.
Yes all use bbds but the deluxe memory man is the only one with the MN3005 chips. All the aficionados pine for them. Some other brands use the xvive brand reverse engineered clones of that chip, but they are largely panned. Most of the new boutique companys use the same chip as the classic boss bbd.
