Does anyone have some good boutique compressor suggestions? Thinking of a JHS Pulp 'n Peel but I'm curious what else is out there in a similar price range.
I like the Warden by Earthquaker Devices. I’ve heard that the Deep Six from Walrus is also really good.
the only boutique compressor i've ever owned was the Wampler Ego comp and it was a good pedal for sure. ended up selling it, but just because i just don't use compressors much at all outside of the dynacomp for when i'm playing country type stuff.
I just traded my ProCo Rat with an aditional gain stage toggle (far too muddy for anything I’ve been playing) and got a Boss DS-1 just for shits and giggles and you know what? I’m in love.
The DS-1 is a perfectly fine distortion pedal imo. Stacking it with other pedals is what really helps it shine. Running an OCD into it, I've found, really produces a nice, thick distortion tone. Nothing special, but it's far from bad.
I've never played an actual Boss DS1. I built a BYOC clone for someone and that was pretty cool, but it was quite a long way away from the off the shelf stuff Boss make now. It was using the old Japanese transistors and they'd also put a 4th knob on it to control pre-gain. Was very cool.
I had a Boss DF2 (distortion like the DS1 but had an "infinite feedback sustain" feature) that was surprisingly good. I bought it for the feedback function... someone stole it from me at a show and now they go for 4x the price I paid. :(
he has a six string sig? i thought it was just 7 and 8... im leaning towards the 7, non-tele, with the fishman fluence pickups.
Just bought a Friedman Overdrive pedal. Loved it. Of course, I was playing it through a Fender Reverb and that thing took it so well that I might save up for that now lol
These Modern Flying V's remind me of the band Orgy and their 1999 cover of "Blue Monday". If you revisit that video (lol), I feel like one of the guitarists is playing a similar guitar. Gibson needs to get it's shit together ASAP.
