ive also heard Lollar makes a great humbucker sized p90 though, which id also be interested in putting in my bridge position
No love for the strat single coil? I am confused! The neck position and neck/middle combo sound so nice.
i guess i shouldve mentioned my jazzmaster has a humbucker slot in the bridge, not a standard JM slot i just tried to post a pic but dont think it worked because my IG is private, 1 sec only picture i have on facebook of it and i dont wanna get off my couch to take a better one hahaha
you could probably just get the regular soap bar p90 lollar or anyone else offers than. that's a sweet guitar you have.
I've played Duncan PhatCats before and have one of them in the neck of one of my guitars. Really solid pickups. Plenty of output, alnico 2 magnets to offset the single coil bite of a p90 with a softer magnetic pull. I think the bridge measures 8.5k in output.
yeah i dont love the tone of the stock humbucker thats in there right now. i actually play just on my neck position most of the time. i have the procession and its by far my favorite pedal
Just switched from bass to guitar in my band. As it was, I was already falling down the rabbit hole when it came to pedals, but now I'm getting super into weird/different amps. Nevertheless, nothing's beat a Twin Reverb--but I can't afford one, haha. Are there any similar amps to a Twin Reverb without breaking the wallet that hard?
What's your price range? Fender's bassbreaker and hot rod deluxe amps are pretty solid. I have a Blackstar that sounds decent as well.
I wish there was a way i could really know which pickup to put in my guitar before buying them. It really is kind of just trusting bother buyers when they’re saying the product is great. McNelly VS Lollar ... any preferences?
I sometimes go by good quality youtube demos where the amp is going direct into the mixer or computer and filtering out the room noise, and the person doing the demo isn't using any effects, except for some overdrive. And I dunno too much about McNelly pickups but Lollars have always sounded good to my ears
I just checked out the McNelly website. It's cool that they seem passionate about their product, but I'd like to know what the DCR is on the pickups to see how they'd push my amp. Looks like I'll have to see some demos later.
Yeah i do that too, but even then i struggle really knowing when I’m not actually there in person. I know i want to switch out both pickups in my Jazzmasters eventually. And it’s funny because i love the guitar, and i really like the way it sounds. But I’ll find sometimes when I’m playing with my band it’s a little too chimey, and turning down the treble only does so much. I want a Jazzmasters pickup that has more mid-low, but still has that snap too it that comes with chimier guitars
$600ish. If it's really awesome, I'd go a little higher. Which Blackstar do you have? I've never played one.
HT Club 40 watt combo, all tube. Picked it up used for just under $500. New would be around $600. The clean tones and reverb are good. The ISF feature on it is really cool. It allows you to shift the tone of the amp to sound more British or more American. The clean and overdrive channels both have "tone" switches that allow you to utilize boutique/vintage tones or modern/midrange-y tones. Some people complain that it sounds "muddy" but that hasn't been my experience in the year that I've had it, and it's certainly gig-able
Lol, an amp is something i need to invest in... but honestly for years I’ve just played in bands with people that have had awesome amps that i always use instead of ever getting my own. Like yeah of course i has my own amps growing up but when i came of age / skill to get a good one, that’s when i started playing in bands and like i said.... someone is always willing to let me use a really nice one
I got my Blackstar out of necessity because before that I was playing a Line6, and my other guitarist was playing through a beautiful Fender tweed amp and I realized just how bad my amp was in comparison haha
Another company worth checking out is Lindy Fralin. The guitarist in my old band had an ibanez semi-hollow with dogear p90s from them and they sounded awesome.
My bass player in my band has a ton of gear. Specifically a ton of guitar gear, so i can use any of his guitar amps when we’re doing band stuff. He has an old Sunn amp, a nice fender solid state (can’t remember what model, but i love this one), a Marshall half stack, and peavey half stack. It’s hard for me to want to buy my own amp when i can use any one of these. Thanks I’ll check it!
I'm thinking I'm gonna swap the stock pickups out of my Tele for Fender Texas Specials and wire them to a 4-way switch. After doing more research on the Duncan Quarter Pound Tele pickups, they're a little too hot, almost to the point where I worry it might detract from that Tele tone. Plus adding in too many switching options kinda takes away from that simplistic charm of a Tele.
So i might trade away my TC Electronic Flashback x4 for a squier vintage modified mustang... seems like a weird trade, but honestly as awesome as the flashbackX4 is, i feel like i don’t utilize it as well as i could. Also in my band we play in a bunch of tunings and another guitar means less tuning breaks, even if I’m using it for just one song at a show. Thoughts? Am i an idiot?
Sounds good to me! I only really ever play in standard but I do enjoy having an additional guitar live
