Yes! I need to see it, Pete’s Dragon is one of my favorite of the Disney “remakes”, so I’m sure I’m going to really enjoy that one.

 

“Pete’s Dragon” is great. The one Disney remake they seemed to let the director do their thing.

 

For starters I’d cut out the giant people. I’ve been thinking what that scene added to the story and I still can’t think of any importance for it.

 

Something about not taking shortcuts on your journey or something? Also they're very tall and very cool they must stay

 

Also they may or may not be a hallucination from eating toxic mushrooms?

 

CinemaSins voice: Uh, why didn’t Gawain just give the Green Knight a small cut on his cheek? That would’ve been a far easier blow to receive in return, duh.

 

I would argue that the scene with the giants, particularly the shot where Patel is walking behind them and is like the size of an ant, is a pretty great illustration of a guy realizing how enormous the world is and how little he knows about it/how insignificant his quest is in the grant scheme of things

But also, sometimes things don't have to add something to the story, they can just be visually arresting and that is enough. I mean, the movie does subtitle that section with "interlude" if i remember correctly.

 

Yeah we thought he was maybe hallucinating but weren’t 100% on that. How does he get the axe back though?

 

I don’t necessarily think he was definitely hallucinating the giants, I just think it’s a possible interpretation because the mushroom scene was like right before that.

 

Also I don’t know how this information escaped me until last night but I just then learned that Jim Gaffigan is playing Smee in Lowery’s upcoming Peter Pan film and I am incredibly stoked for that

 

I would simply cut off a finger or hand or at most an arm but do you

 

Gawain simply shouldn’t have volunteered.

Stunning, this is my favorite thing released this year. Definitely gonna get added to my regular rotation at home, even if I’m doing something I’ll look up and see something incredible

 

I didn’t like this until the last 5-10 minutes, listened to the director talk on the Ringer podcast The Big Picture go into the themes and yeah I love it now.

 

This was my first movie since the start of the pandemic.

What a gift this movie is.

Been thinking about it for hours since seeing it this afternoon.

 

It feels like a very deliberate choice though to have so many characters from his “quest” either be played by the same actor (Vikander) or by characters who look very similar, Joel Edgerton reminded me of Sean Harris and the blind woman looked identical to the Queen (forget her name), and many have already confused Winifred with Dev’s alternate future Queen. The portrait at the castle being hung upside down also gave me mirrored/dream/spinning image vibes.

 

The parable that this movie is couldn’t be more appropriate for our time & place in history rn

What a beautifully shot film. Subtitles would have helped me tremendously though as I feel I missed most if not all of the introduction.

 

What a compelling, beautiful, and… just, really cool film.

 

Beautiful film - I deeply respect Lowerly as a filmmaker and what this film is doing. I saw it on Friday and I'm still sitting with how I felt about it overall. Last 20 minutes are spectacular in particular.

Not sure if I quite LOVED the film yet
