Some parts of the trailer scream Ari Aster to me.

Edit: I guess mainly it's just that spinning wheel thing with its little drawings on it.

idk it seems more rooted in the fantastical elements of lowery's style, and the earthly color palate is distinctly him. might be the sudden bouts of violence

Yeah very true! It's definitely there though. I'm also not familiar with Lowery but it sounds like I should check out some stuff.

A Ghost Story is incredible and I’m big on the Old Man and the Gun/Ain’t Them Bodies Saints. Pete’s Dragon was a live action Disney remake that justified its existence

Absolutely, Petes Dragon didn’t get enough love, and A Ghost Story is one of my favorite films of the last few years. It’ll give you a better idea of how he incorporates otherworldly elements into his films

Oh dang I actually saw Pete's Dragon in theatres with my mom and sister yearsssss ago haha. I remember fully expecting to be bored out of my mind with it and actually finding it decent!

His head on fire in the beginning reminds me of Kendrick's Humble video.

I'm sure this movie will be good. I like Dev Patel's acting in anything I see him in, but he will always be Anwar in my eyes. Wonder if this movie is gonna change that, considering how different of a role it is

It really sucks because this is definitely something I’d have liked to see on the big screen, but I feel like premiering on VOD would be good for this movie in terms of both profit and word of mouth.

Gotta be agonizing for filmmakers/cast/crew to have their films premiere VOD instead of on the big screen.
