A lot of people these days associate A24 with horror thanks to Hereditary and Midsommar so I don't entirely blame them for playing up those elements in the trailer. But that was a risk they had to know the downsides of taking.

I did not get action movie vibes from the trailer. After I saw it, I just thought it looked weird as hell. It delivered on that. I want to see it again already.

i haven't watched the trailer since it first came out, so my memory is likely off, but i do recall it looking more like a straightforward match up between Dev and this green knight with a menacing voice.

I half wish I had waited for the local Alamo to open, but that got pushed back another month. theater doors got left open so there was a weird glow during the darker scenes, which was most of the first act, and dudes kept walking in and out to answer their phone.

  5. That’s always so annoying. One time I went to see Life of Pi in the theater and it’s a very quiet movie. A big family came in and sat right behind me and brought out a giant bag of chips that they all shared. One person on the far end would loudly ask the person on the other end if they wanted any and shit. It was the worrrrst. I ended up moving down to the second row just to get away from them.

I usually close the doors myself on the way in if I'm not super early. Especially for an early morning matinee, the ushers appreciate it so they don't have to run all the way down to do it when the trailers start.

as for dudes getting up and answering phones, yeah...that's one of the many reasons movie theaters are an awful way to watch a movie.

This movie was interestingly made. I dunno if I liked it overall, especially learning about the source material, but I'll definitely rewatch it

I liked this a lot. I am not familiar with the source material and could definitely tell what was going on. The fox looked a teensy bit iffy and took me out of it a bit, but the giants and Green Knight looked amazing.

The person I went with is a big fan of the original text and they explained some of the differences and thematic stuff for me afterwards. I liked the ending of this movie a ton. What a bold way to end the journey haha.

honestly i missed it during my viewing bc i didn’t know but then saw it online. my interpretation was the knight still let’s gawain leave or he flinched again. either way, it’s his daughter in the future after he’s deposed.

The ending could've been a nod to the actual ending of the poem, meaning it was all a game/test put together by Morgan Le Fey. The opening sequence of the movie obviously supports this because she clearly summons the Green Knight and she's the one who gives Gawain the "enchanted girdle" that will supposedly protect him from harm (discarding the girdle is the final test). Under this interpretation, she was probably doing it in order to teach Gawain a lesson about honor and bravery which he needed to learn to be an effective ruler one day. By that logic, the vision of the future that Gawain sees as he kneels in the Green Chapel will not come to pass anymore, as he has learned his lesson and will no longer return to Camelot as a coward and become a hated ruler who dies alone and broken. The Green Knight is satisfied that Gawain has learned the lesson his mother wanted to teach him and lets him go in peace.

Or he actually does get his head chopped off.

Or he runs away again anyway, having learned nothing, and the vision we see becomes reality.

That's the beauty of the ending, it can be all of those things or none of them. I like the first interpretation though.
