CURRENT TOTALS Last Young Renegade: 5 Cinderblock Garden: 5 ---------- Weightless: 5 Six Feet Under the Stars: 5 Hmmm...
I’m just gonna leave this hot take here: after spending a ton of time with the whole discography over the last few weeks because of this bracket, I’m ranking Dirty Work above Don’t Panic.
I might put Don’t Panic last in the SWIR-present run, actually. It hasn’t aged well for me. I feel that record doesn’t showcase their pop sensibilities as well as any other, and Alex’s vocals on that album have never been my favorite (he spends a lot more time in lower ranges, which I don’t think suits him as well).
that's fair I guess haha although I disagree I feel it is their strongest album in terms of imagery (that is, it has an interesting thematic tone to it that arises naturally out of the songs), and feels the most emotionally genuine. a lot of the melodies are more subdued than on their other records but also more emotionally affecting. it feels the most like a cohesive and intentional piece of art to me.
Six Feet over Weightless is the crazy one to me, but I don’t think I’m on the same page with most of you about this band
Standing ovation from me!! Excellent post, 10/10! I'm glad that at least one person has come around. EXACTLY!! My exact problem with this album. I like it, but it always felt like pandering to me after people hated Dirty Work. They were like oh shit everyone only liked Heroes, let's make an album that sounds all like that so we can get everyone back on our side. It worked (people loved it and it paved the way for the huge success of Future Hearts), and it did produce some great songs for sure, but it's no where close to their best.
