I Feel Like Dancin' probably isn't even the worst song on Dirty Work, let alone in their entire discography

 

I rest my case

 

It's almost like the song is a satirical take on the "party all night" craze that was going on in mainstream music at the time...

 

Yeah it’s never come across that way to me at all, also it was co-written by Rivers Cuomo during The Dark Times (“Can’t Stop Partying,” anyone?) so I’ve never fully bought that explanation of it, personally.

It's so clearly a satire though you can argue if it was executed well, but it was absolutely intended as a satire. They also were making a play for radio at the same time, I won't deny that.

 

Oh this got awkward hahaha

 

But there are ways to make a play for radio without writing a clumsy, awkward-sounding “fake” party song, in my opinion. I don’t think it was executed well if it was intended to be satire, but like I said I’m also not fully convinced it was.

Look at Last Young Renegade, that whole record was a huge play for radio and it’s great.

 

I should also make it clear that I love this band and my frustration at Dirty Work/that song comes from a place of love not hatred.

 

I also want to throw out that I think Dancin is one of the band's weaker songs, just think that they have worse songs than it

 

As far as satirical songs poking fun at party music, Pop 101 by Marianas Trench is far superior to I Feel Like Dancin’.

Maybe not ATL’s worst song, but it’s hardly worth defending lol.

 

Dancin' isn't their absolute worst, but it's not a highlight.

 

Well yea that's fair I don't know I think it is but they've never directly said so, so I can't tell you how to interpret it. It honestly is one of the weaker ones on that album, but I'm a big Dirty Work defender haha. Also That Girl is their real worst song if you ask me. I barely ever listen to it.

I think That Girl and No Idea are worse than I Feel Like Dancin'

 

That Girl is one of the best songs on Dirty Work, sonically speaking.
