What’s funny is I missed the top part and as I was reading I was like wow this sounds like a Trump quote haha.
Those numbers that Netflix (or any other streaming company) don’t mean anything since they’re not reported by an independent source. They can just say whatever they want and it’s like “Yeah…sure.” Plus, it’s not like any of the cast or crew are compensated for how many minutes people watched something.
This sucked fucking shit. Worst 2022 movie I’ve watched. Even worse than The Bubble. Fuck the Russos. Give this cast and material to any competent action director and you’d have a fun TNT cable watch. I mean I get it. 2 Network sitcom directors that made one of the most successful films in history followed it up with a heavily ripped apart joke of an Oscar play, so of course they’d try to make something that goes back to their roots. And by roots, I mean they must have been binge watching episodes of 30 Rock for inspiration for a fake movie they could waste $200M on.
this stunk. one of the ugliest movies released recently. the over reliance on CGI is a extreme detriment. why are we wasting Gosling in this shit.
The netflix action movie model simply doesn't work. Because there is no box office to give backend points to (like Tom Cruise walking away with $100M off of Top Gun's success) you need to pay your talent a shit-ton more upfront which balloons the cost of the movie, and might impact how much you spend on special effects (though that part is debatable). Another aspect is if you already got paid $20M upfront, it's a Detective Crashmore situation. (2 Mil is my rate. Even if I do a bad job I still get that 2 Mil). There's no incentive to give a shit if you already got paid. Tom Cruise felt a desire in his heart for Top Gun to kick-ass, because he knew it would be a bigger hit if audiences loved it, and thus his pockets would be filled even more. Plus that movie is actually good, so win-win
Ahhh yeah, I didn't think of it like this; that without the box office helping out the finances for a film, Netflix (and Amazon and....) have to pay more up-front for the talent in their films, along with the other points you raise.
Tom Cruise would give it 150% for any movie he was making even if he wasn’t getting any money. He’s built different.
