I will shout it to the heavens Lorde, SZA, and Kesha got done dirty As much as it sucks with AOTY at least Kendrick got mad other awards
Some random thoughts on tonight: I like the Bruno album, but it literally would have been my last pick. Also wasn't Jay set to perform? What happened? Even Alessia Cara new her Best New Artist win was bullshit. That shoulda been all SZA. Why were they being such pricks about letting Lorde play her own song, but gave Pink the stage to sing a crap song that wasn't nominated for anything? Surprised Gambino didn't do Redbone, but hot damn was that a great performance of Terrified. I bet he made some new fans tonight. Gonna be monitoring how much his spotify streams go up this week haha. The Weeknd won best Urban Contemporary Album over Gambino and SZA? God this just goes to show Grammy voters only vote for the most recognizable name. Was there not a single Rock category televised this year?
Also the Bruno win for AOTY honestly isn't that surprising considering the two big contenders were Jay and Kendrick and they probably totally split the votes of all voters who are rap fans.
I mean neither is country or some lame ass Sting/Shaggy collaboration, yet we gave them both a spotlight.
Wat? Are you kidding? Country is not only popular, it also outsells other genres in this current age.
Also sorry if it's already been mentioned, but that kid who sang with Gambino is playing young simba in the upcoming Lion King remake. Gambino is playing adult simba.
He said mainstream popular.....last time I checked when I turn on iHeartRadio or check the Billboard Hot 100, country is hardly on there. I'm well aware of country music's success, but I wouldn't call it mainstream.
He is the token PoC that the old white male grammy voters can tolerate, apparently. Helps that his message is pretty inoffensive to their ears/doesn't challenge their privilege I'd imagine
Also surprised/happy to see Portugal. The Man win best Pop Group Performance. All the years I've been listening to them I never expected them to ever win a Grammy.
It’s one of those most popular genres in the country. Just because country songs don’t grave a pop chart doesn’t mean it doesn’t have mainstream success.
i think the bruno album is much more important for music than people in general seem to think, even if it's below its AOTY competition. but yeah grammy's are fucked up what's new
