Obviously there is a place better than this. I belong there. In the Best Place Hey Jean ralphio what is this guy?
Eleanor called Michael a tricky devil and then Michael hella pulled a face. Re-hashed twist incoming?
Definitely still think this episode and the premiere should have been one hour-long one (I could actually see that happening on the DVD) but this was great, the story is already going directions I didn't expect and there were some fantastic jokes
After watching the first two episodes, I'm really hoping this isn't heading toward a resolution where everything that's happened since the beginning of season 2 has been Michael's latest, most successful attempt at torturing them all. I thought this episode might be heading there when it seemed like they were all going to turn on Eleanor behind her back or something. I still think there's a chance something like this could happen, considering it was kind of weird that Michael in one scene was saying Eleanor should be replaced and then in the very next scene was convincing her that she was the only one who could save humanity. Seemed like he was starting to try pitting them all against each other. Also Michael's admission that he faked his nervous breakdown was pretty suspicious (this could just be because he was lying about it not being real but who knows). I don't know, I don't think I'd love it if the big reveal was that everything we've seen over seasons 2-4 has still been in the Bad Place. The lore the show has accumulated up to now (things like Jeremy Bearimy, the Time Knife, etc.) being actually not real would suck.
I’d be VERY upset if that’s how this turned out, but I think it’s more likely that Michael has absolutely no clue what he’s doing either and is trying to put on a brave face to keep everyone motivated and keep Eleanor confident. And with the nervous breakdown thing, I just think he doesn’t want the humans to know they’ll be tortured by him if they lose. Too demoralizing. Plus, I feel like we’ve seen too many “behind the scenes” things with Michael to make it feel real that this whole thing is The Bad Place. But fuck, if they do unravel anything it’ll be SUCH a disappointing ending. It’s like a “it was all a dream” ending but ten times worse.
There is an evil Michael at play this season so I wouldn’t trust anything that happens with the Michael character. I haven’t watched yet but I also don’t want that ending!
I think Michael’s still just an anxious mess cause of Shawn’s threat at the end of last season. And why would Shawn threaten Michael in private if Michael is still working for the bad place?
I don’t know what Michael has been up to, but his facial reactions don’t seem like just responses to a character, they were a little toooooo prominent
Yeah I really don't think Michael faked his nervous breakdown. It was real but he's afraid to face the truth and scare Eleanor with what Shaun revealed to him. It is quite possible the Bad Place kidnapped and replaced him already, though. Maybe when they did the swap at the train with Bad Janet.
Super meta almost definitely not true theory: the original four have been the *actual* Good Place test subjects since the beginning. It’s not them being tortured by Michael more, it’s them being used to show how people can change. And that’s what it’s been the whole show
Also seriously I suspect having Chidi be one of the test subjects was one of the original goals of the Bad Place. They got Simone, which made Chidi erase his memory, then they purposely give up one of their spots because what they actually wanted was Chidi there for whatever reason, eg to fuck with Eleanor hopefully next ep deals more with the other guy. Has he even spoken this season?
I just want to get back to the question of whether or not the good place is actually good and what that means for humanity/our wonderful characters, and the thought that instead it might actually be that none of this was real kind of makes me want to scream. It’s still super funny, but I’m waiting for it to grab me on a deep level again.
Also I’m just super super done with Brent. Even from a satirical level I just want him off my screen forever.
Yeah Brent sucks and I'm over him. I also think they're severely underusing everyone except for Eleanor and Michael and that's kind of a bummer for a final season. Jason and Janet have had some pretty funny moments, though. Tahani and Chidi just haven't really been there...
Also: Give me more Derek. Why is Michael Schur so afraid to cast Jason as a regular in his shows? He always just has short cameos (B99, Parks, Good Place)
Not gonna lie, I really can't stand Derek anymore and am glad he's "dead" Also it does feel really weird having Chidi not part of the main ensemble, at least for the time being. He was one of the "roundest" characters, for lack if a better word, so no longer having his chemistry in the squad is kinda sad.
Didn't Janet just become more advanced the more times she "died"? I feel like this isn't the last we'll see of him, and Jason might be in for a rude awakening. Hoping so anyways.
because his characters are always obnoxious. In small doses they are barely tolerable, but making him a regular would make the show unwatchable.
Yeah that's a fair point and I get it, but I'd almost rather they give him a more subdued character to have more of him in a show. Haven't seen The League though, not sure if he's a full time character on that?
Strongly disagree, every scene he's a part of in the three shows I mentioned are absolutely hysterical to me. Especially Pimento in B99, those are some of the best episodes of the show. Saying he's barely tolerable sounds crazy to me.
his gimmick works at first, but doing basically the same thing for every single character gets old very fast
